Reducing our yearly budget deficit and paying down the national debt transcends political lines. From Obama Administration officials, to Democrats and Republicans in Congress, to American citizens, everyone agrees that something must be done to reduce the debt. The difficulty is that we’re going in the wrong direction—quickly. In the 2009 fiscal year alone, the federal government’s budget deficit was a record-breaking $1.42 trillion.
