Obama a War Criminal, Officially, Analyst Says

The following covers the main part of Press TV’s interview with human rights and international attorney Alfred Lambremont Webre regarding rights violations at Guantanamo Bay military prison. 

“I want to get your reaction to this certainly on top of the hunger strike, on top of the fact that these men are not being charged: certainly being sexually abused, just adds to that disaster, just adds to the pain,” Press TV told Webre. 

Responding, Webre said, “These acts by the United States government are clear violations of the third Geneva Convention and I believe the fourth Geneva Convention here.

“The third Geneva convention, to which the US is a signatory, requires that prisoners of war be given proper and humane treatment and may not be tortured. What the British inmate describes, including the sexual aggression, clearly constitutes torture and inhumane treatment, which is a violation of the third Geneva convention.”

Even worse, the British detainee was a civilian, one of many caught in the pay-for-capture bounty campaign the U.S. conducted, a dragnet of innocent people used for rendition and experimentation, including torture.

“However, in this case it sounds like the British person is not an enemy combatant, he is a civilian that was captured in a dragnet improperly and illegally in Afghanistan,” Webre told Press TV.  “So, he is covered under the fourth Geneva convention, which affords very wide treatments of civilians.

Webre read that Fourth Geneva Convention passage:

“Civilians shall be treated humanely and cared for by the Party without any adverse distinction,…  founded on sex, race, nationality, religion, political opinions or any other similar criteria. Any attempts upon their lives, or violence to their persons, shall be strictly prohibited; in particular, they shall not be murdered or exterminated, subjected to torture or to biological experiments; they shall not be willfully left without medical assistance or care, nor shall they be put to conditions exposing them to contagion and infection.”

Webre highlighted that other paragraphs explicitly set out prohibitions against exactly what the United States government is doing there (and in other black site CIA-run prisons around the world).

Webre was a judge at the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal. 

“Moreover, in May 2012, the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal found the U.S. government, including [former US President] George W. Bush, [former US Vice President] Richard B. Cheney, [former US Secretary of Defense] Donald H. Rumsfeld, Alberto Gonzales; the attorney general, — guilty of war crimes for conspiracy to violate the Geneva convention for precisely this behavior for civilians that were being held in Guantanamo,” Webre said. “So, in this case, that judgment would apply to [US] President Barack Obama.”

Webre stated, “So here we have Barack Obama officially is engaged in war crimes and the US is being shown once again to be a lawless nation.”
