Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides announced that Cyprus cannot maintain being a place of refuge while simulataneously being a launchpad for military action. Cyrpus finds the charges of alleged WMD use troubling, however a full investigation has not been carried out verifying their use, or identifying the perpetrators. While Cyprus is deeply concerned about the continuing loss of life in Syria, it cannot permit itself to be used as a base for military operations. Instead, Cyprus views its role as a place of safety for refugees.
It should be noted that Russia has just issued a proposal to modify the terms of the recent monetary bailout that Cyprus received, significantly easing Cyrpus’ debt and payment requirements
all of this may be startling news to western military forces who have been reportedly building up on the island nation off the Syrian coast.
