Trump’s Foreign Policy War on Syria

What has been going on with our administration has been confusing and difficult to follow.  At times it seems the US foreign policy changes every few days. During the G7 meeting discussing Syria and Russia, Secretary of State Tillerson stated, “Why should U.S. taxpayers be interested in Ukraine?” This statement caused concern and confusion with the European Diplomats at the meetings and with Ukraine’s President Poroshenko.

The Syria Chemical Weapons Report  used to justify the US airstrike on Syria’s airfield evidence is based on internet based open source reports by rebel affiliated organizations and not based on definitive real intelligence. The US coalition directly tying the chemical attack to the Syrian Airforce could have easily been established by onsite testing and inspection of the area immediately after the attack. This could have been easily established by the US military personnel currently located in northern Syria being routed to the location to take samples and conduct a thorough onsite evaluation.

Luckily real intelligence from CNN citing an anonymous senior US official stated, “The US military and intelligence community has intercepted communications featuring Syrian military and chemical experts talking about preparations for the sarin attack in Idlib last week.” These transcripts hopefully will be released to show the direct connection.

Today the Syrian General Command of the Army released a statementthat the US coalition bombed a coalition repository containing chemical weapons, “the killing of hundreds, including large number of civilians…” According to Sputnik news, “The Russian Defense Ministry said it has sent drones to the site of an alleged chemical leak of a result of an alleged US-led coalition strike…” The US Operation Inherent Resolve spokesman Col Dorrian responded to the allegation on twitter stating that the “strikes near Deir Ezzor Weds–not true! Intentional misinformation…again!”

Today Operation Inherent Resolve issued the following statement on misdirected airstrike, “A Coalition air strike in support of partnered forces fighting ISIS south of Tabqah, Syria, resulted in 18 Syrian Democratic Forces personnel killed April 11. The strike was requested by the partnered forces, who had identified the target location as an ISIS fighting position.  The target location was actually a forward Syrian Democratic Forces fighting position. The Coalition’s deepest condolences go out to the members of the SDF and their families.  The Coalition is in close contact with our SDF partners who have expressed a strong desire to remain focused on the fight against ISIS despite this tragic incident. The Coalition is assessing the cause of the incident and will implement appropriate safeguards to prevent similar incidents in the future.”
