[1. NATO's Largest Military Exercise]

In January 2024, NATO launched its largest military exercise since the Cold War, known as Steadfast Defender 2024. This extensive exercise is scheduled to take place from February to May 2024 and involves a staggering 90,000 troops, 50 ships, 80 fighter jets, and over a thousand combat vehicles. The primary goal of Steadfast Defender 2024 is to demonstrate NATO’s ability to defend its territory up to its border with Russia and to practice how U.S. troops can reinforce European allies in the event of a conflict with a “near-peer” adversary. This exercise showcases NATO’s commitment to regional security and readiness.

In a significant development, a secretive lab under China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, called the Science and Technology on Electronic Information Control Laboratory, has conducted simulations on how US warships could be attacked using space weapons and hypersonic missiles. This Chengdu-based institute, which specializes in electronic warfare equipment for the Chinese military, successfully simulated an attack where the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) catches a US warship off guard using a combination of electronic warfare tactics and advanced hypersonic missiles. This is part of a series of similar exercises conducted by various labs in China. Last year, the North University of China attempted to overwhelm an American naval fleet with hypersonic missiles in a simulation, without the use of space weapons. However, the U.S. was able to detect the Chinese missiles at launch.
