Are ISIS Fighters Entering Europe with Syrian Refugees?

No good deed goes unpunished. ISIS fighters are exploiting the welcome given to Syrian refugees to infiltrate Europe.

Smugglers quoted by BuzzFeed say the ISIS fighters disguise themselves as refugees. They cross the Turkish border from Syria. Then smugglers help them hide in the crowds of Syrian immigrants before sneaking them into Europe.

The ISIS fighters wait for passage on cargo ships packed with real refugees. The ships carry the disguised jihadis from Southern Turkey to asylum in Germany and other countries. An ISIS operative claimed 4,000 ISIS fighters are already in Europe.

ISIS fighters control large parts of Syria and Iraq. ISIS has declared the territories under its control a Caliphate. They plan to expand the reach of their Caliphate through a global terror network. The ISIS fighters quietly invading Europe will be troops in that network.

The BuzzFeed report quoted two senior members of the U.S. Senate confirming ISIS is smuggling fighters to Europe on refugee ships.

“I think it’s safe to say that that goes on. To what degree, I’m not sure we know,” Senate Intelligence Chairman Richard Burr said in an interview.

“We’ve heard that,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham, a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Senator Graham also warned that both refugees and ISIS fighters will continue to use Turkey as a transit point as long as the refugee crisis drags on.

“If you don’t stabilize Syria, you’ll never get a handle on this,” Graham said. “You’re going to have this dilemma of how do you tell a legitimate refugee versus a jihadist going someplace else.”

Earlier this year ISIS spokesman Abu Mohammed al-Adnani praised deadly terror attacks in Australia, Belgium and France. The French attacks left 20 people dead, including 12 people who were massacred at the offices of satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. Al-Adnani said: “We repeat our call to Muslims in Europe, the infidel West, and everywhere to target the Crusaders in their home countries and wherever they find them. “We will be enemies, in front of God, to any Muslim who can shed a drop of blood of a Crusader and abstains from doing that with a bomb, bullet, knife, car, rock or even a kick or a punch.”

Some European politicians fear that the public has allowed compassion to risk public safety. But their warnings have been drowned out by human rights organizations. The human rights activists want European countries to accept more refugees.

About 11 million refugees have been displaced by fighting in Syria. Most of them have settled in neighboring countries like Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon. In Europe, Germany has welcomed hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees. But Austria and Hungary are preventing large groups of refugees from staying.

The ISIS Caliphate is likely to shrink in areas bordering committed local forces such as near the Kurdish and Shia areas in Iraq. But it is expected to grow in central and southern Syria. This means the refugee crisis is far from over.

Experts also think ISIS may continue to branch out into al-Qaeda territories in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen.
