Sturm Isaac droht stärker zu werden als bisher erwartet
Die Experten des Nationalen Hurrikan Zentrums (NHC) der USA prognostizierten am Montag, dass der Wirbelsturm zu einem Hurrikan der Kategorie zwei mit Windgeschwindigkeiten von 160 Kilometern pro Stunde heranwachsen werde, bevor er Dienstagnacht oder Mittwochfrüh irgendwo entlang der Golfküste zwischen Florida und Louisiana auf Land treffen werde. Bisher hatte es geheißen, “Isaac” werde über dem warmen Meer lediglich die erste von fünf möglichen Stufen auf der Saffir-Simpson-Skala erklimmen.
Vorsorglich wurde in einigen US-Staaten der Notstand ausgerufen, einige Gebiete evakuiert und die Arbeiter auf Öl- und Gasplattformen im Golf von Mexiko in Sicherheit gebracht. Es wird befürchtet, dass der Sturm auf den Tag genau sieben Jahre nach dem verheerenden Hurrikan “Katrina” über New Orleans hinwegfegen könnte. “Katrina” verwüstete am 29. August 2005 große Teile von New Orleans. 1800 Menschen starben, die Schäden entlang der Golfküste beliefen sich auf mehrere Milliarden Dollar.
Der Sturm trifft auf den Tag genau, sieben Jahre später New Orleans. Der Durchmesser von “Isaac” beträgt ca. 540 Kilometer.
