Hurricane Amanda now the strongest ever in May. Category 5 status is rare
Hurricane Amanda has winds of 140mph as a strong Category 4 hurricane. Yesterday the storm was in the elite Category 5 status with winds of 155mph, rare for a hurricane and even more rare for any storm in the month of May. The hurricane is now the strongest hurricane ever in May in the Eastern Pacific and one the strongest worldwide so early in the hurricane season.
The previous May record for the region was held by Hurricane Adolph in 2001 with winds of 143mph. Earlier storms may have been stronger but reliable records became possible with the start of the use of satellites in the mid-1960′s.

Much obliged fort his post. I hope people pay heed to it and start preparing for the storm. My friend was once in a similar situation and had to face a storm. Luckily she and her family came out safe, but her house and property was totally damaged. We should take precautionary measures and install home improvements such as impact windows and storm garage doors, to minimize the damage of this hurricane season.
