Good morning,

National Weather Forecast for June 25, 2014 shows areas of severe storm activity and areas of calm … the focus is where the severe storm activity will be by this afternoon and evening …

Pacific Northwest – A storm will come ashore, bringing showers/thunderstorms to the region.  The green on this map represents the showers and there are some oranges mixed in .. .some at times heavy with a chance of thunderstorms added in …

Canada, Rocky Mountain States – An arc of severe storms will go from Alberta/Sask south through MT/WY/CO/NM in the red-shaded zones.  These areas will have severe thunderstorms … so we will likely have watches up later …

Mid-Atlantic to Northeastern USA – A front will drag through the area, bringing thunderstorms from SC north through NC/VA/MD/DC and points northward into New England, as noted in the reds … with severe thunderstorm potential …

Other areas – Northern California will have some rain … but points across the Desert Southwest will not …  Much of the Ohio River Valley States will have some pop-up summer thunderstorms … and of course usual storm activity in TX/LA/AR and the Gulf States …

This was only targeted to affected states in your newsfeeds should you live there …

A typical weather day for this time of year in this part of the world. At least we are back to having typically hot days with thunderstorms popping up here and there instead of what we have seen in the recent past. Living in the south I can still remember the first time I heard and took note of thunder during the winter months. There was even a couple of years there that actual tornados were striking in December over Tennessee. Without giving away my age, I can say that I have lived long enough to know that tornados in December in the south were unheard of in my younger years 60′s, 70′s & 80′s. Hearing a thunderstorm and then a tornado at Christmas time several years ago stands out in my memory like that of the first earthquake I felt when I was a kid. I am glad to see that things are seeming getting back to normal. The time experienced between the seasons, like Fall and Spring still seem shorter than what I remembered but everything else is now back to about the same. Hotter than hell in the Summer and Cold enough to Freeze your toes in the Winter. Typical Tennessee weather. The one big change though that is still troubling is that during the winter places south of us that hardly ever got ice and snow now seem to be inundated with it every Winter where it used to strike the middle of the state and northward. Now it seems that most Winter precipitation completely misses the mid section of the state and now hits the southern areas. To me that indicates a change in the jet stream pattern. Again, I am old enough to remember and thus make comparisons over (for a human) a long period of time.
