Hurricane Patricia: Super Storm Secrets

Hurricane Patricia, with potential to lift cars and homes, drown people in flash floods, and bury people alive in mudslides, developed rapidly into a “potentially catastrophic” category 5 storm capable of sweeping waves of 40 feet onto Mexico’s Pacific coast and its millions of residents Friday. The monster storm is expected to maintain its high winds plus spin deadly tornadoes when it makes landfall.

The Mexican government declared a state of emergency, warning residents to prepare for the “worst-case scenario” as Patricia threatened to race ashore Friday afternoon or evening, to be the most powerful Pacific hurricane on record.

Several million residents, including poverty stricken Mexicans and wealthy tourist magnets of Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo are in the storm’s projected path, the U.S. National Hurricane Center and Mexican emergency agencies said.
