All non-essential travel has been banned in New York, transport suspended and bridges shut as the city is hit by one of its worst snowstorms.

Parts of the eastern United States have received 40in (102cm) of snowfall in a huge blizzard that is sweeping across the region.

Travel restrictions in New York came into place at 14:30 (19:30 GMT).

Mayor Bill de Blasio said up to 25in snow may fall, making it one of the five worst winter storms in the city.

Heavy snow began falling on Friday across more than 20 states, affecting some 85 million people.

At least 13 people have died and emergencies have been declared in 11 states.

Tens of thousands of homes are without power and traffic jams lasting more than 12 hours were reported in Kentucky and Pennsylvania

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has issued a total travel ban for New York City today due to the horrible snow storm ravaging the East Coast. He has demanded that all peoples in the area “immediately go home.”

Starting at 2:30PM EST, all vehicles (other than emergency) will be banned from the roads. This will be enforced by the police.

A state of emergency has been declared throughout much of the eastern United States. Not from terrorists or global warming, but from something far more chilling.

A massive snowstorm is approaching the Appalachian region tonight. As a result,Georgia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Kentucky, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C. have all declared a state of emergency with DC expecting to see the worst snowstorm in over 100 years.

In Hong Kong they recorded coldest day since 1957 and now it’s colder the northern China then in Siberia, so dear NYC stop bitc*king and start with shoveling..
