The whole story has morphed so many times it is hard to keep up with all the changes.
That is definitely inappropriate demeanor for what she ‘went through’. However, never underestimate the power of narcissism in America. People want to be famous in the USA, and since Youtube and American Idol/reality TV have come about as catalysts, there seems to be no rationale for real fame required. She’s probably been ‘brainwashed’ for the last few days that she is a ‘hero’ and ‘handling everything like a champ’ – assuming she’s not a crisis actress. She’s probably even been told she’s going to be rich because of this.
It’s nonsense. There is no way she was shot with anything. I have only been shot once, and that was by accident. It was a minor caliber hit not in the head, that cut an artery but put me in the hospital for 3 days.
If she had been hit in the back of the head with any round at close range, she would be in the hospitial in intensive care, not up on a podium wearing a stupid ribbon.
Depends on the caliber, I’ve seen 3 people shot in the head with a 25acp and in all 3 the bullet ricocheted off of their skulls they didn’t require any medical treatment other than a stitch or 2.

IMC, I do agree with you on that .25-ACP thing. 35 years ago, in a very bad bar-honky tonk I was ‘visiting’, I watched a total tragedy that left me speechless. Still like a cheap Hollywood film in my mind, even all these years later. Yes, you can survive a gunshot wound, just depends how thick your skull is, and how small the caliber is. .25′s only make 88-lbs of force at the muzzle anyhow (I became very interested in the ballistics of a .25 after seeing that event – I also quit going to bad bars like that, too).

I lost 3 family members at one time. Two died of lung cancer within a week…the next week the third died from a terrible stroke. I miscarried on the news of the third loss.
I remember being told by friends “how well I was holding up” during such profound loss. It’s called shock.
The pain is there…but the brain CAN NOT absorb that much sorrow in an instant.
It comes on slowly and painfully after the world around you has moved blissfully on…..

I sympathize. Right now, I have a 3 mth old granddaughter whose mother and father are already awaiting another child so they’ll have had 2 in a year. This news is overshadowed by the fact that my daughter-in-law’s father was in a serious all terrain vehicle accident (both legs broken, broken pelvis, 5 broken ribs – which threaten his lungs and a broken wrist) so let me tell you that the new pregnancy takes backstage. I have a brother who’s going through a nasty divorce and who’s relying on me for support and I seem to have ended up with psoriatic arthritis. Here where I live (I’m the secretary of my Coop), the president is on some sort of rampage to get a 71 year old woman (who pays her rent, takes care of the chores we have to do and is quiet) to clean up her living space (which I object to ’cause if she wants to live in a dump, it’s her prerogative since we don’t have such things are cockroaches here). And he’s intent on getting me and him to talk to her sister about it and I know that the person will end up angry at me.
Now, I try my best NOT to let all of this bother me but it does. So each person has HIS/HER own way of coping with stressful events.

Outside stressors make matters worse for those who suffer pain and autoimmune problems. I know you have a lot on your plate….but please try to find some “quality relaxation” during everyday.
And your right…..EVERYONE handles stress differently…..and differently at different stages of life. We never know how we will react until in that situation for ourselves.

I’ve worked in mental health for 20 years and her emotional response is extremely abnormal. Even if she was “unable to absorb that much pain”. Not only did they die, it was an extremely traumatic situation. They were supposedly tied up and shot in the head, she was the one who answered the door and he got in, she would be an emotional wreck, from the loss of her siblings, parents, and the guilt that it was her fault, plus survivors guilt. Most likely she was given LOTS of pain meds in the Hospital/ER which will affect her for as long as she takes them.
She most likely has been put on anti-depressants to ease the pain of the tsunami of grief that is coming her way.
And she is likely on strong anti-anxiety meds do to the emotional trauma she endured.
All of these Rx in a small teenager, who has never taken meds on a regular basis will be VERY NUMB emotionally.
That is the WHOLE point of the drugs. If you have been in the mental health business for 20 years and can’t see THAT…….maybe it’s time to retire……cause your not helping anyone.

I don’t see anything odd. I agree with others re: lower caliber rounds. I also know from going through my own hell, that sometimes the shock of an event keeps you numb for days, sometimes weeks. Then, when everyone goes away, you’re sitting alone, and, BOOM!, it all comes crashing in. There is no “right way” to deal with a tragedy. Each person handles it differently. Pray for the girl. Even if it all was a hoax, you still didn’t waste your time.

People, I live very close to this family. The girl was not actually shot in the head but her finger deflected the bullet and she played dead, then called 911. Her family is a family of great Christian faith and she is a hero because she saved other family members by calling the police before he could get to them down the road. She is not using a satanic hand gesture but it is the sign language symbol for love. She used sign language due to other family members with disabilities. She lost all of her brothers and sisters and parents and now is being raised by other family members because of her psycho uncle. Please show some compassion. This story is true and real. She is in shock but also has a very deep faith in God. She is going to have very hard years ahead of her to work through the grief. Please be kind.
