5 Makeup Tips for Older Women

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Most of us don’t like the thought of aging, but it’s a fact of life. Aging can be a beautiful thing. You have laugh lines that represent all the happiness and good times you’ve had in life. But makeup doesn’t have to be difficult as you age. Some women tend to wear the same products and apply makeup the same way in their 50’s as they did in their 20’s and some things need to change.

For instance, as you age, less is more when it comes to makeup. No matter how perfect your skin is, you will have a few lines and wrinkles and the more makeup you wear, not to mention the heavier makeup, the more it will settle in those fine lines and creases. That’s why airbrush makeup is perfect for older women, because the makeup just mists on the face, not settling in the creases like traditional makeup.

Taking care of your skin is where it all starts. Making sure you wash your face, exfoliate, and most of all, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

As you age, your lips start to thin out too, so don’t ignore them. Adding a little lip gloss is key to making them look plumper, whether it’s a clear or nude gloss, but you definitely need something to help them stand out some. You can also use the age-old trick of applying lip liner just outside your lips, so they look more full. And remember that dark colors for your lips are not your friends.

Your eyes are very important as you age. Wearing too much makeup or eye shadow that settles in the creases will age you even more. Your eyes and the area around your eyes tend to have a lot of fine lines, so try using an eyeliner pencil instead of liquid eye liner so that it doesn’t spread into those creases and add years to your look.

Use highlighters to lift your face. This is a makeup trick that is going to be around for a while, because if done correctly, you can literally make your face look more lifted and bright. The same can be said for contouring, where you use bronzer and blush to play up certain facial features to help your skin look more radiant and alive.

Those are just a few simple tips for applying makeup as you get older. Of course every face is different and we all age differently, so there may be some other tricks that will help keep your face looking younger.
