Why is the crust of the Earth shaking so violently all of a sudden?

Scientists say there has been an above average number of significant earthquakes worldwide in less than one month period.
It is important to keep in mind that a magnitude 8.0 earthquake would be many, many times larger than the earthquake that hit Indonesia yesterday.
A devastating 6.5-magnitude earthquake has struck Indonesia Wednesday which killed at least 102 people and 136 seriously injured, according to Indonesia’s Disaster Management and Mitigation Agency.
Large earthquakes are relatively common in Indonesia, which sits on the infamous Ring of Fire, a set of fault lines that circle the Pacific Basin.
Wednesday’s earthquake is Indonesia’s second major temblor this year and the most severe yet.
