With Gas Prices At $4 Per Gallon, Is Mileage Tax The Next Step From Obama, Kaine?

With gas prices at an average $3.98 per gallon and rising nationwide, reports revealed today that a new scheme to tax Americans for every mile they drive in their cars may be just the latest threat to Virginia families’ financial wellbeing by President Barack Obama and his #1 cheerleader, liberal former DNC Chairman Tim Kaine.

As The Hill reports today, “[t]he Obama administration has floated a transportation authorization bill that would require the study and implementation of a plan to tax automobile drivers based on how many miles they drive. The plan is a part of the administration’s “Transportation Opportunities Act,” an undated draft of which was obtained this week by Transportation Weekly.” 

A new mileage tax on Virginia drivers would represent yet another middle class tax hike supported by Kaine and his fellow liberal Democrats. As a liberal Governor, Kaine proposed billions of dollars in new transportation taxes on Virginia families. As liberal DNC Chairman, Kaine has dependably supported President Obama’s efforts to raise income tax rates, as well as ObamaCare’s $570 billion in new taxes.

“Judging by his support for higher income taxes, ObamaCare’s $570 billion in tax hikes, and his attempts to raise Virginia transportation taxes by billions, there is really no question that Tim Kaine will be cheering for the Obama Administration’s proposal to tax Virginians for each and every mile they drive in their cars and trucks,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Chris Bond today. “But with gas already at $4-a-gallon and rising, it’s hard to imagine that Virginians will share Tim Kaine’s love for new transportation taxes.”
