California Ground Is Sinking! Emergency: Frackers Ordered 'Shut Down!' Poisoned Drinking Water Feared
An emergency shutdown of 11 oil and gas waste injection sites and a review of over 100 others have been ordered in California’s drought-wrecked Central Valley, not out of fear of infernos ravaging the drought-stricken west coast, but instead, fear that companies have been pumping poisonous fracking fluids and other toxic waste into drinking water aquifers there.
A report this week from UC Davis researchers highlighted again the threat drought poses to California’s groundwater supply.
Farmers and others, however, are at odds about how the state should monitor and regulate use of water pumped from wells.
Ground Sinking Smoking Gun
The smoking gun illustrating the problem of groundwater overdraft might be in the farm-worker town of Stratford. One of the two wells supplying the unincorporated town of 1,277 south of Lemoore recently failed.
“The well failure could be a harbinger of things to come as the ground sinks due to excessive pumping of water out of aquifers to satisfy the county’s farms and towns.”
Much of the west coast is under emergency declarations today as global warming’s droughts spread wildfires across parched states. Governors have declared “forced evacuations” from hundreds of homes. As the numbers of people having their lives ruined by drought and fire, the numbers supporting government action on global warming increases.
The last things Californians need is frackers using their water needed to battle fires and for fires to cause fracking explosions. Many scientists and a growing number of people suffering in the drought would add the last thing they need is the general public continuing to deny there is a problem called global warming.

Maybe we should stop blaming these problems on things other than global warming, which the overwhelming majority of over 5000 climate scientists around the world realize is due to human activities, and do the things we urgently need to do to try and minimize its impact. It’s too late to stop it, but we can lessen the harm by ending the use of fossil fuels and giving up our fossil fuel wars in order to direct our resources to a renewable energy revolution, family planning, ending pollution, and helping other countries we currently dominate to do the same.
