Uranium Hexa-Fluoride Leak by Repeated Offender, Honeywell, in Small Southern Illinois Town of Metropolis

Below is raw video of the Uranium Hexa-Fluoride leak from the Honeywell Uranium Enrichment Plant in Metropolis, Illinois On October 26th at ~7:35 p.m. According to Honeywell, the leak occured do to equipment failure. We may not know for quite some time though, what really happened.  It may have been from equipment failure–due to their locking out of workers on August 2nd, 2014, and replacing their very skilled force with temporary “scabs” as they are called that do not specialize in the very detailed and experienced work that comes with dealing with the one and only UF6 conversion facility in the U.S.  We seen a very similar incident at the same plant in March, 2012 during a worker lockout. So we are seeing a pattern here.

Honeywell in Metropolis, Illinois has been notorious and a repeated offender of chemical and radioactive leaks in the past, so this is nothing new except this plume is the largest leak in the installations history. A plant “shutdown” has been enforced upon the premises. Federal Inspectors have been monitoring the installation since October 27th, the day after, and there is no reason to think that independent inspectors are not monitoring the plant. The Honeywell plant in Metropolis is the only installation in the United States that converts natural, but still radioactive, Uranium Oxide into the highly radioactive substance Uranium Hexa-Fluoride to be used in nuclear power plants.

Honeywell has quite a history of being a very irresponsible babysitter to its own facilities.  Many workers have died due to cancer inflicted from working with radioactive substances as well as illegally shipped and mislabeled radioactive substances.  They have continued to get away with their arrogant and irresponsiveness to worker and community concern. Remember that Honeywell is a Fortune 100 company.  Do they pay off the NRC (Nucear Regulatory Commission to keep their mouth shut at the expense of workers and the community of the Heartland? I think so.  Every person in the Metropolis, Illinois area has at least one family member with cancer. (I know because I lived there for the first 26 years of my life.)

Here, within this video we see the UF6 (Uranium Hexa-Fluoride) plume cloud leaving the interior of the installation. With the crescent moon in the backdrop, on what most thought was going to be a typical Metropolis night, we witness the gastly cloud of UF6 escape the facility and enter into the chilling fall night of the small midwest town.  Honeywell, in an attempt to cover their own grounds, claims that the plumage was from water mist that was used to contain the UF6 release, and that no UF6 escaped the facility. But, we can see very clearly that the water system used to contain outside contamination was NOT turned on until 5:46 in the video taping. Thus, the radioactive gas entered the atmosphere for well over six minutes until they turned on the water, which according to sources, water makes the UF6 more deadly, increasing the lethality of what escapes.
