Steady Blackening on The East Coast of Florida
Pictures taken Oct. 7, 2010
Ormond Beach Florida.
Looking North …………………………………………….. and South views.
A lot of sea grass/weed washing ashore on North Penisula State Park this past week as well as the sands becoming darker and darker each passing week.
The Weeds seems to be very dry and blackened like charcoal.
The Ghost Crabs are not there, but not sure why.
They were disoriatated as I have never seen before for months prior so I supose many have died as so many before.
If the discoloration with this blackening continues we may not have white sands on our beaches in the future.
But the white sands will be the least of the problem if the life of the creatures continue to die here. You may like to see this > Video < shot 2 days later.
I will be looking for the Ghost Crabs in the Spring to see if they return.
It is cool in then mornings here now but the days still are quite warm.
So the Weekend may bring in the people for a day at the Beach here.
There are many plastics washing ahore with the seaweed and shells.
Turtle leathery eggshells are present …
with groups around the nest that have been roped off from the public.
It is really sadning to see the deteariation of the beaches here.
The Blackening of the sands is getting more exstensive.
The waves keep bringing the mix into the shores and leaving them on the beach. I found many White rubber gloves on the beach. They use these type to handle Corexit and oil cleanup work, but not knowing where they came from can not say for sure.
Will be back on the weekend with the low tide to take a look see.
