Why passively wait for unnamed geniuses in laboratories to stumble onto a breakthrough when you can achieve your own breakthrough and significantly boost your intelligence, awareness, insight, cognitive performance, and creativity today?

Numerous studies reveal brainpower boosters

While exercise, meditation, adequate sleep, and a sensible diet create the foundation for good overall health, science has discovered certain supplements that can empower the brain in remarkable ways.

Some brain boosters, like Omega-3 fatty acids, dark chocolate, green tea, coffee, and Ginkgo Biloba extract, have been well-covered in the media for many years. Others are unknown to many people and rarely reported by the mainstream media.

Note: It’s not recommended that all these supplements be added to your diet or mixed together. Comprehensive studies have not been made on the supplemets being used together, creating what’s called the “cocktail effect” that may change the way the supplements work (or don’t work) in your body. As always, it’s wise to consult with your doctor before adding any supplements to your diet that effect a physiological change in your body.

According to George Dvorsky at io9.com, the proper use of supplements shown in medical studies to enhance brain functions

The following is a partial list of those supplements that appear to be most effective in supercharging brains.

1. Bacopa Monnieri

An herbal supplement used by Indian physicians for centuries, Bacopa monnieri has been shown to boost learning ability, memory and cognitive skills. Dvorsky suggests considering a dose of 150 mg of bacosides each day and taking it with the Piracetam + Choline [See link at end of article].

2. Caffeine + L-theanine

Although to some L-theanine may sound like a designer drug, it’s actually just an amino acid found in all variations of green teas. When taken with caffeine the two create a beneficial chemical symbiosis in the bloodstream that promotes long-lasting brain boosting effects: enhanced memory, less tendency to become distracted (better focus), and better visual processing.

3. Creatine

Relatievly new and quickly becoming a popular brain boost supplement, creatine is produced by the body in animals and not only enhances the strength of muscles, but sharpens the attention spance while improving memory. Dvorsky writes, “Scientists have discovered that it plays a pivotal role in brain energy homeostasis, acting as a buffer for cytosolic and mitochondrial pools of cellular energy.” Based on studies, he suggests taking 5,000 mg per day or the doisage recommended on the purchased brand.

4. Rhodiola Rosea

A hearty plant indigenous in colder regions, including the tundras of the poles, Rhodiola rosea contains phytochemicals that the people of Siberia and Scandinavia swear works wonders. “The herb,” notes Dvorsky, “has an affect on serotonin and dopamine levels due to monoamine oxidase inhibition. Studies have shown that Rhodiola rosea can improve a person’s overall level of mental and stress-induced fatigue and complex perceptive and cerebral functions (such as associative thinking, short-term memory, calculation, ability of concentration, and speed of audio-visual perception).”

The recommended daily amount falls between 100 mg to 1,000 mg, divided into two doses of equal size taken once in the morning and the second dose in the evening with food.

5. Spanish Sage (Salvia Lavandulaefolia)

An aromatic herb that grows primarily in Southern France and throughout Spain, Spanish Sage increases the efficacy of acetylcholine’s function. Translated for lay people that means it boosts memory, and the mood in younger individuals and also can help those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Dosages of 300 mg of the dried sage leaf daily is optimal.

      What an incredibly stupid article. The writer uses legitimate physiological terms and then lies about what they mean.
      For example: acetylcholine has absolutely nothing to do with memory or intelligence.

      Additionally, appeals to tradition (ie. “it’s been used for thousands of years”, or so it’s claimed) lend nothing to facts whatsoever.
