7 Ways To Reduce Stress

We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but stress is a part of life. There is no escaping it, but thankfully, there are ways to reduce it. (Let us throw in the caveat that if you are someone who never stresses out no matter what life throws your way, please contact us, we’d love to do a scientific experiment and figure out how we can do it too.)
But rather than just throwing in the towel to life’s inevitable stresses, let’s fight it together.

Here are 7 simple ways you can reduce stress right now:

  1. Relax, meditate, take deep breaths, do yoga, go for a walk. Those could really be five bullet points of their own, but try any and all of the above to help reduce your stress levels. Turn off your computer (make sure you bookmarked this page first!) and take a few deep breaths right now. Taking deep breaths has been shown to lower cortisol levels, which help reduce stress and anxiety.
  2. Crank up some tunes. Research suggests that listening to music can reduce physiological stress by helping reduce anxiety, heart rate and even blood pressure. Music has even been shown to enhance creativity, so that’s a bonus all its own.
  3. Get a massage. Not only does it feel amazing and help reduce physical pain, studies suggest it also helps fight stress. A recent study on massage therapy claims it can reduce pain, relax your muscles and even improve your mood and sleep quality. We’d call that winning.
  4. Spend some quality time with your animals (or borrow one from a friend). Pet owners are usually more healthy (more active) and happier (yay for a cuddle buddy) and research suggests that just spending some QT with your pet can help reduce stress. Studies even go as far to say that pet owners have high self-esteem and all kinds of benefits.
  5. Kiss or hug someone. We doubt your significant other will argue with this one. If you don’t have a significant other or a good friend who loves random hugs, remember, hugging your pets (see #4) also helps reduce stress.
  6. Take a bath. One of the easiest ways to get to your Zen state of mind.
