What is Mold?

Last time, we wrote on why does bread get moldy and now we are writing on what is mold as this will give you clear vision of how exactly a mold occurs and how it affects different foods especially bread. It is a type of fungus which occurs on plants and fibers of which bread is a good source. It is mainly associated to damp and musty location including bathrooms, attics and basements. It has the tendency to travel the air with its tiny pores and that are generally ideal at home environment in wet areas where they can easily breed.

Once mold occurs, it immediately spreads to the area and expands further. This cannot be termed as a good fungus as it leads to health hazards. Where there is a moisture problem there gets high probability of molds occurrence. Therefore, the best way is to handle the problem immediately. Despite the unsightly appearance of mold, it can react as allergen and irritant. People suffering from asthma or allergies can even face the complications because of mold. This also results into breathing problem at home. Also affects eyes, ears, throats, and noses and keep irritating until cured.

In order to get rid of this complication, the best is to eliminate the source. One has to find how and where the moisture is at home and deal accordingly. If mold is not spreading to a wide area at home then it indicates the moisture problem can be easily tackled. Large area coverage of mold means more troublesome. In this matter, the best is to seek professional help who can easily deal with mold removal.

If at all, the home owner is tackling this problem by self, the best is to do good amount of RnD before starting the process. It is recommended to use face mask for safety because he/she won’t want to face breathing problem. Using a surgical mask or something that a carpenter use to keep from inhaling saw dust will be an ideal choice. While clearing mold, the area should be scrubbed with warm water and detergent for better removal and then let it dry. Including this, another step would be of disinfecting the area by using and mix of one gallon of water with one fourth cup of bleach and allowing the area to dry. This process should be repeated to ensure that the mold is removed well.

Once the moisture problem is eliminated from the area, mold will automatically remove. However, it can occur back anytime especially during rainy days. So, best would be calling a professional to remove the mold from its root. If moisture is not removed completely then it can again bring the mold back to its position and affect the health of family members especially kids.
