Pres. Maduro Just Announced What You'll Never Hear Pres. Obama Say

President Nicolas Maduro announced Monday what Americans won’t here President Barack Obama announce: a 30 percent increase in minimum wage and pensions to protect Venezuelans from inflation nearing a 60 percent annual rate.
Maduro blames soaring consumer prices on a well orchestrated ”economic war” launched by opposition groups against his socialist government.
“This is an opposition that openly receives at least US$40 million per year from the United States to undermine the Bolivarian Revolution,” says journalist and Venezuelan political analyst Pablo Vivanco.

U.S.-backed critics blame Venezuela’s endemic inflation problem on the failure of 15 years of socialist economics under Maduro and his late predecessor Hugo Chavez. They do not look at their own unjust capitalist system that impoverishes mainly women and their children.
The majority of people earning subminimum wages and living off tips in the United States are women. Is it a coincidence that the tipped minimum wage has been frozen at $2.13 since 1991?
“We don’t think so,” Living Off Tips spokesperson and waitress Jennifer Rexford said a few months ago.
“I cannot provide for my children,” she said. “We cannot provide the healthcare our children need. We cannot provide transportation we need to work. We cannot provide the basic necessities in life.
“If the minimum wage was more than $2.31, I’d be able to feed my son and myself,” says another waitress Garland Dosier.
Over 10 million servers are being financially abused in the United States in a way Venezuelans have not due to Maduro and before him, Chavez.
“Now, because of the May 1 celebrations, I have decided to increase the minimum national salary and pensions by 30 percent to levels that will defend the quality of life of our people,” Maduro said at a meeting with workers’ leaders in Caracas.
One can see how the Obaa administration would not look too kindly on the Venezuelan president.
Maduro, 51, a former union leader, narrowly won an election to replace Chavez last year. He has announced there would be three May Day workers’ rallies in Caracas this Thursday.
Student opponents, backed by U.S. covert forces on the ground stirring chaos and violence, are planning protests as part of a three-month campaign of street demonstrations against Maduro.
A United States-backed opposition has been aggressively undermining the Nicolas Maduro government that most Venezuelans voted to have, want and support.

No wonder Maduro’s a thorn in Obama’s side. Well, this type thing and, of course, Venezuelan oil.
This is a socialist economy. Seriously? I am no fan of Obama. Further, I can’t wait until he is out of office, but this is NOT what the US needs. We need the government to get out of the way.
They are out of the way – of the military-industrial complex, the corporations and the one percent, all of whom are doing very well, thanks to our governmnent.
Or do you mean out of the way of the people? What would we need government for? To do what the people agree needs to be done, like real elections, real news, no more spying on us, protection from predators, taking care of infrastructure, ending wars and renewing prosperity, stopping climate change, mass extinctions, and overpopulation? Those would be on my list. We all have different lists, of course.
Or do you want simple anarchy like a lot of simple libertarians?
Venezuelan “socialism” sounds like a good step in the right direction, certainly more democratic than the US. Ms. Dupre has documented the important differences. The one thing I dislike most about Venezuela is the US domination.
