Liberal Failure Update: Detroit Public Schools

From the Detroit News:

Detroit Public Schools would close nearly half of its schools in the next two years, and increase high school class sizes to 62 by the following year, under a deficit-reduction plan filed with the state.

The plan, part of a monthly update Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb gives the Department of Education, was filed late Monday to provide insight into Bobb’s progress in his attempt to slash a $327 million deficit in the district to zero over the next several years. Under it, the district would slim down from 142 schools now to 72 during 2012-13…

The last time there was a Republican mayor of Detroit?  1962.  For 49 years, that city has been run exclusively by Democrats – liberal Democrats.  Big-spending, liberal Democrats.  During that time Detroit went from the most prosperous city in the United States to the urban wasteland we know today – a place so bad off that the city is essentially proposing to withdraw services from large swaths of Detroit territory.  And here is education – about to have half the school closed.  Detroit spends nearly $8,000 a year per pupil, and only about 30% of Detroit’s kids graduate.

You can’t fix stupid – and the stupid policies of liberalism over generations have entirely destroyed the great, American city of Detroit.  Collapse is inevitable, and only a return to wisdom – and voting for some Republicans – can bring Detroit back to greatness.
