Joe Gerth Opens Pandora's Box

Joe Gerth reports that Senate President David Williams will be mourning the loss of his dear friend, Circuit Court Judge Eddie Lovelace and as such was not inclined to answer speculative questions posed by reporters whether Williams was interested in the vacancy the Judge’s death created.  Pandora’s box is now opened.

Calling Williams “one of the more disliked figures in modern Kentucky statewide politics” Gerth speculates whether Williams will try for a move to the bench.  Gerth peppers the pot with the hot topic of how such a move by Williams could help him increase his pension.  Gerth then stinks up the room by adding that this might be attractive to Williams who “shuttered his law practice before the 2011 election and is still working
to rebuild it and since his wife, the heiress to a multi-million dollar
fence manufacturing fortune has filed for divorce.”

Well let me put all this raunchy talk in persepctive.  The reason the loonies on the left and their fawning media are so anxious to find other places for Williams to go is because he has been so successful in the Senate at kicking their butts, holding together a majority despite the trickery of the Governor’s office and because he isn’t the kind of guy who takes any crap off of anybody.

Sure, the TEA party types are all a flutter over the “pension” issue and that’s why Gerth mentioned it.  And yes, they are correct that it is a hot mess and needs a real adult to step in and fix it.  But never for a minute fall for the con game they are playing.  The media doesn’t side with the TEA party.  The  media USES the TEA party to splinter the GOP.  They figure that it is easier to defeat the republican candidate when he/she can’t even count on the loyalty of their own.

And do you think there is anybody on deck in the Senate with the guts and the grit of David Williams to stand up to the dems, hold together a majority and give us the semblance of a two party system in this Commonwealth?

Yes, I like Robbie Stivers alot,  Katie Stine is a good friend of mine and Lord knows Damon has been jockeying for the job like a master chess player, but really folks, how do you see things playing out in Frankfort without “mountain politics” holding the reins?

And for those of you not familiar with “mountain politics” let me help you understand it.  The guys who play mountain politics are the guys who bring lead pipes to a boxing match and swing first, and continuously, until the opponent is on death’s door.  Want a glimpse?  Picture Floyd County’s Greg Stumbo as attorney general and one of the  most genuinely good men ever to serve in Frankfort, Ernie Fletcher, as governor.  Get the picture?

Now put any of the successors to Williams position in the senate into the picture as it existed prior to 2000 when the democrats controlled all seats of power in Kentucky and had done so for decades.

So, Gerth begins the speculation, Thayer considers his support of the governor’s gambling legislation to give him the clout to bargain Williams into a judgeship, Katie is preparing to be the compromise candidate if Stivers and Thayer go at it and Julie Denton will be making calls and serving as the stalking horse once again.

But guess who will make the final decision.  David Williams, and if he decides to drop the senate and take the bench I can’t say I would blame him one bit.  His leadership would certainly be missed, but for a guy who got treated as badly as he did by the rude and thankless republicans he has stood by for so many years, letting them handle the mess on their own would seem to be fair treatment in my book.
