Tried To Warn You, Can't Get Our Guns? Get Our Ammo

For nearly six years now I have been trying to warn you.  So long as we have a Second Amendment, the government cannot completely take away our guns.  But they CAN take away or make unavailable, ammunition, which, as I pointed out back in 2007 on this blog, makes your gun an ineffective hammer.  Well looky here:

The massacre in Newton, Conn., and other mass shootings have prompted for a call to curb gun violence.

California assembly member Nancy Skinner answered that call with a proposal to restrict ammunition sales in the state.

Monday she unveiled Assembly Bill 48. It would
require bullet buyers to show identification. It would also require
ammunition dealers to be licensed and report all sales to the department
of justice.

Emmeryville police chief Ken James supports the tighter restrictions.

”Right now you can buy bullets in any
store and the sale is not recorded”, James said. “Gun violence will
continue unless we control the sale of bullets.” [NBC]

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal announced Tuesday that he plans to
introduce federal legislation that would require instant background
checks for purchasers of ammunition in the wake of last month’s school
shooting that left 20 first-graders and six educators dead.

The draft of Blumenthal’s bill also requires sellers of ammunition to
report to law enforcement when someone buys more than 1,000 rounds of
ammunition or when a large quantity is stolen.

The threshold of 1,000 rounds could change as the bill moves through the legislative process, Blumenthal said.

He is also proposing to ban bullets with nonstick coating and incendiary ammunition. [rep-am.com]
