You have to go back to the CES 2013 in Las Vegas for the launch of the great looking Helix convertible ultrabook from Lenovo. From then the trail went cold for a while, but a recent announcement has set the ball rolling again with this laptop being available at sometime in April, which is only a matter of weeks. The Helix is Lenovo’s attempt on the already busy ultrabook market, but there is more to this machine than first meets the eye. Sure it has an 11.6 inch display, with third generation Intel Core processors and display that converts to a tablet in one fast and easy manoeuvre, which is a great feature to use with the pen input device.

So we know that the Helix is cool, but how cool? These are the main features;  It has an 11.6 inch screen offering a FHD 1080p IPS display with pen input (400 NITS) and a 1920 x 1080 of pixel resolutions. This laptop is running on the latest Windows 8 operating system and powered by the 3rd Generation Intel Core i5-3317U Processor with 1.7 GHz, 3MB L3, 1333 MHz FSB. There is graphic support from the Intel HD 4000 video cards, up to 8 GB of DDR3L 1333MHz and a 128 GB solid state drive (SSD) SATA 3.

Communications come from the Ericsson C5621 TFF (w/GPS Feature), Bluetooth 4.0 and the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 62055 2×2 agn. Other features include the built in 2 MP 1080p front camera & 5 MP 1080p rear camera, two fast connecting USB 3.0 ports, Minidisplay port, Ethernet via USB dongle and Dolby Home Theater v4 Stereo speakers. As for the size, this machine measures up at 296.1 mm (W) x 187.3 mm (D) x 20.4 mm (H) and weighs in at 3.75 lbs with the built in 3-cell Lithium Polymer 42 watt hour battery that Lenovo say will be good for up to ten hours of power.

Lenovo have priced the ThinkPad Helix Ultrabook to start at $1499, but that is just the entry level.
