Asteroid a MILE wide due to skim past Earth THIS WEEK - as experts warn of MASS EXTINCTION (+Video)
A COLOSSAL asteroid hurtling through space is feared to be one of the biggest EVER to threaten a collision with Earth.
Asteroid 1999 FN53 is travelling faster than 30,000 mph and will brush terrifyingly close to Earth on Thursday.The asteroid is currently hurtling around the Earth fifty times faster than a jumbo jet and double the speed of a space rocket..
Though several million miles away astronomers fear a slight deviation from its orbit will put it on a headlong collision course with the planet.
The gigantic missile thought to measure almost a mile across will brush closer than previous monsters which have sparked a global panic.Worried astronomers warned 1999 FN53, which is an eighth of the size of Mount Everest, will skim the Earth in THREE DAYS.
A collision would be nothing short of catastrophic triggering mass destruction, earthquakes and global extinction. The monster is more than TEN TIMES bigger than other meteorites currently visible on NASA’s Near Earth Object radar.
It is also double the size of the gargantuan 2014-YB35 which had astronomers around the world watching the skies in March.
Experts warn a collision would trigger an explosion similar to millions of megatons of TNT and would be capable of killing 1.5 billion people.
NASA’s Near Earth Object Programme puts the enormous lump of rock on course to pass within six million miles of Earth on May 14. In astronomical terms this is a tiny distance and close enough to prompt astronomers to keep an eye on it until is passes safely.

however it is far fetched to proclaim that it is hurtling around the Earth or we are at risk of an impact affecting a billion and a half people. What are you trying to do, Elias? Start a panic for nothing? The one that gets us will have no warning.

I have to laugh when I read some of the comments here. Stock up on food and water. Make sure you have enough ammunition and you’re locked and loaded. Make sure you have a shelter in your basement or dug in the ground. How funny. That shelter may wind up being your tomb. All your stocks might incinerate before your eyes along with your family and yourself. We should always try to be prepared for any emergency but as the people in Texas just found out (tornados), even the best emergency plan can get blown away in an instant.

It’s going to “brush closer than previous monsters” that scared us? I don’t think so. Previous monsters came close enough to get between the earth and the moon. Now, that’s a bit of a close brush, but this one is many times the moon’s distance from us.

That would be one of an infinite number of possible deviations, and would only be slight if “slight” means a massive shift completely out of its present orbit to an orbit that doesn’t bear even a slight resemblance. Do you mean that kind of “slight deviation?”

1 Lunar Distance equals 363341 km.

As one responder noted, the one that will get us will not be noticed, and I add, it will come in from the southern polar region. Why? We look to the Arctic, because a nuclear missile, or olden days nuclear bomber attack, would be coming from the northern pole. Antarctica has been deemed an area for international research, and officially, has no standing military installations, therefore, no compulsion to monitor for attacks from that direction, and as such, no major radar nets looking towards the South Pole.
