A Room With a View-a photo essay

Back in high school, the screen adaptation of E.M. Forster’s A Room with a View was a favorite of mine. I adored Helena Bonham Carter (this was back when she actually looked and dressed normally), I loved the story, and most importantly, was captivated by the film’s stunning cinematography. After watching the film’s opening sequence and hearing the words of Puccini’s “O Mio Bambino Caro” being sung in the background, I knew that I wanted to go to Florence. I made it there during my semester abroad in Spain when on vacation in Rome. Although my day trip to Florence was anything but ideal-it was hot, it was mobbed, it was closed (well, obviously the city wasn’t but many of the main sites were)-my favorite part was probably just walking around the city center area and being able to picture perfectly in my mind scenes from the film. I must have borrowed the VHS tape more than a dozen times from my local library and so everything was quite vivid even years later!
