Hollywood Black Out- No Black Directors/Actors:Spike Lee, Jada Pinkett Smith to boycott Oscars

The biggest losers in American on Thursday, January 14, 2016 were not the millions of Americans who lost when playing the historic 1.6 Billion Powerball but the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (The Oscars) for not nominating a single Black Director, Black Actor/Actress for the 20 slots up for grabs.

Like last year (2014) the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences excluded the fine performances of blacks for Oscars nominations.

Cheryl Boone Isaacs, the first black  President of the Academy said in a 2014 interview with NPR her goal is diversity, realizing that the Academy’s membership reflects the monochromatic film industry.

“It is still primarily white male, which will make sense for all the years that the Academy has been in existence,” she says. “And there is not a cut-off. It’s not like you get to be a certain age and you’re no longer a member. We don’t toss people out.”

Well Ms Isaacs since your  presidency the odds of a black actor or director is worsening since your installment because the 2016 nomination like last year has not produced a black nominee.

This is really too bad for fine Black Actors like Michael B. Jordan and his wonderful Oscar performance in Creed, and its director and writer Ryan Coogler but Sylvester Stone is nominated for Best Support Actor.

Too bad for many small children of any color who will not watch blacks take the stage and speak to millions across the globe, and maybe to encourage them to succeed in life when that person is someone who looks like them.

Recently, in Thailand an ad ran about whiting the skin that said that ‘White Skin is Better’. The ad was immediately pulled off the air waves but maybe white skin is  better in Hollywood these days. Too bad because Hollywood is a billion dollar industry that produces a greater impact than a 1.6 Billion dollar Powerball.
