Build yourself an emergency evacuation getaway survival bicycle...for very little money

You can start out with a cheap bike from a flea market, craigslist or wherever it may be, just make sure it’s a quality frame and a bike that you enjoy riding.  Also make sure the components are all up to par, you can always upgrade any component at a later date.  That’s the neat thing about bikes.  The next thing you’ll want to do is strap on a rear rack of some kind because this is where the majority of your gear will go…Next, you’ll want to paint the bike camoflauge or some variance of an earth tone color, so you can hide the bike and not risk it being stolen, etc.  Next, strap on some water bottles to the frame, I suggest at least 2 liters in total water capability.  Now take your bug out bag and strap various components of it onto the bike in pannier systems, DIY bags, military pouches, etc.  You can also just wear the bug out bag on your back as you ride, but you’re eventually going to want to get the weight off your back and onto the bicycle, that’s the point of building the bike up.  An important tip: you don’t want to get too much weight onto the front end of the bike – if you plan on trail riding – because the weight will hinder your steering capabilities throwing the entire handeling of the bike out of whack. As you can see in the video I used no more than a fanny/but pack that I took off a USMC Rifleman Rucksack that I once owned.

That’s pretty much it.  You can fine tune the bike, get some good cross terrain tires that will give you good traction in dirt and also not cause too much drag on the road/pavement.  Lube and tune your bike up and make sure the chain and all bearings are good for a long ride (cross country ride) so the bike’s is ready to GO !
