‘Unchained Melody’ Revealed…A Prisoner’s Cry for God’s Love — Via the Wayfaring Gal — June 7, 2026

God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land. (Ps 68:6)

I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; (Isa 42:6)
To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. (Isa 42:7)

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; (Isa 61:1)
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; (Isa 61:2)

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, (Luke 4:18)
To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. (Luke 4:19)

Jesus told us that all of humanity is born into a PRISON HOUSE; and He has commanded us all, worldwide, to come out.

The ones who listen, and have a change of mind, and believe in Jesus, have gone through CONVERSION, and are members of that which the Bible calls the CHURCH.

From a compound of G1537 and a derivative of G2564; a calling out, that is, (concretely) a popular meeting, especially a religious congregation (Jewish synagogue, or Christian community of members on earth or saints in heaven or both):—assembly, church.

Out of these “called-out ones” (i.e., THE CHURCH) Jesus said FEW would actually continue searching for the real truth; FEW would take up their own personal cross; and enter in at the strait gate; and walk the narrow way; never stopping; until they found Christ and life eternal. (Matt 7:13-14; Luke 13:23-24)

So, according to Jesus Christ Himself, FEW will actually escape the PRISON HOUSE.

Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. (Luke 21:36)

The iconic song “Unchained Melody” (embedded below) was written as the theme song for the 1955 prison movie “Unchained”.

The first time I heard the song was in 1965, performed by “The Righteous Brothers.” I was 14-years-old and already thought I knew what love was all about.

It was a time in my life when I desperately needed guidance; but was finding the exact opposite, secretly, outside of the home; and was making all the wrong choices; some were life-changing.

Fortunately for me, even in my complete rebellion, the Lord was watching over me.

I am 75-years-old now; and, as a Bible-believing Christian, walking the Narrow Way, after many years, I am still seeking and searching out for God’s TRUE LOVE: the Divine “Agape” Love of God the Father and His dear Son Jesus Christ.

This “seeking and searching out” is no longer taught in the church, just as Jesus and Peter said would happen. This is why Jesus said the vast majority of Christians are headed for eternal ruin; and most-sadly, believing 100% otherwise!

So now, when I hear the words of this song, “Unchained Melody,” I hear the desperate cries of someone sitting in the depths of the lowest room, in their darkest moments, craving that REVELATION the Bible promises to those who will search for—and follow after—Jesus Christ; knowing it is the only way of salvation, while the “whisperers” try to convince us otherwise…

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: (John 10:27)
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. (John 10:28)

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. (John 14:21)

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; (1Pet 1:13)

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (Rev 3:20)

…waiting for He who bade them to come and show them the Divine Love of God that we are in such need of:

But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. (Luke 14:10)

But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. (Luke 10:42)

Psalm 88 expresses the heart-wrenching plea of those waiting to be called up from this lowest room, after so long a time.

A verse from Psalm 31 is a summation of that cry. I recite this verse every morning:

Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies’ sake. (Ps 31:16)

This is why the Bible speaks constantly of the need for PATIENCE. The Lord works on His timeline, not ours…

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. (Hab 2:3)

For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. (Heb 10:37)

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: (2Pet 1:19)

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. (2Pet 3:8)
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2Pet 3:9)

God’s Divine Love was lost at the fall of man, in the Garden of Eden, and Jesus gave us only one way to get it back: the strait gate/narrow way.

Jesus gave us several foundational commandments—REQUIREMENTS— to help us find our Way to a new heart and eternal life in heaven:

1. Seek FIRST the kingdom of God and his righteousness. It must be our #1 priority, above all else.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matt 6:33)

2. Pick up our own personal cross and follow Him. If “Jesus did it all for us,” why did he command us to take up our own cross?

And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. (Matt 10:38)

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (Matt 16:24)

And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (Mark 8:34)

Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. (Mark 10:21)

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. (Luke 9:23)

3. Enter in at the Strait Gate & walk the Narrow Way. It is the only way Jesus gave us to find life eternal.

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (Matt 7:13)
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (Matt 7:14)

Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. (Luke 13:24)

4. We MUST be born again. It is a requirement. How? The strait gate/narrow way.

John 3:3-8

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (John 3:3)
Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? (John 3:4)
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3:5)
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (John 3:6)
Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. (John 3:7)
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. (John 3:8)

Another interesting note on the “love of God” is that it is also referred to as “charity” in 1 Corinthians Chapter 13:

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. (1Cor 13:3)

And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. (1Cor 13:13)

The lyrics of “Unchained Melody” speak of TIME, and how slowly it passes.

I have often wondered about “time.” There are instances when time does seem to move at a snail’s pace, especially when it’s something I don’t particularly want to do. But then there are other instances when it just seems to fly by. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has pondered this.

However, the Bible does teach that our lives are fleeting and we are in desperate need of a new heart:

(For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:) (Job 8:9)

Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. (Jas 4:14)

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jer 17:9)
I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. (Jer 17:10)

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. (Ezek 36:26)

Perhaps if I were more involved in the world I would investigate “time,” but it’s more important to me to search out my Lord and Saviour that I might be BORN AGAIN; having the Divine Love of God bestowed upon us makes us free for all eternity.

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (John 8:36)

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. (1John 3:1)

Seeking out and finding Jesus Christ, and truly coming into union with Him, and knowing His Divine Agape Love, is all that really matters in this world; everything else is vanity.

Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away. (Ps 144:4)

Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. (Eccl 1:2)

And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. (Eph 3:19)

And the final point I want to make about this song:

“Water” is oftentimes used in the Bible as a code word for God’s Divine Love, and the song speaks of “lonely rivers” and “the sea;” reminding of God’s Love.

And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. (Rev 22:1)

The Narrow Way walk is a search for this “water“—God’s Love—and is a walk of chastisement and JUDGMENT.

I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me. (Ps 119:30)

Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. (Isa 12:3)

But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream. (Amos 5:24)

But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. (Luke 11:42)

But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. (John 4:14)

He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (John 7:38)

And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. (Rev 21:6)
