How to make a budget set of Snake Bite Protection Leg Gaiters with a simple DIY modification

Something to consider when traveling by foot through rough terrain in many parts of the world are venomous snakes.  You may be good at spotting them as you travel, but there are times you simply cannot see the ground through the brush or grass you’re walking through.  It’s times like these you may want to have a little ‘extra’ protection.  The body picks up on hazards through the eye OR the ear first.  A younger person generally has much quicker reaction time to this situation, but that is not always the case.  There are older people who are just as, if not more, quicker than younger people

You should always try to tune yourself into your surroundings when out in the woods and take it easy.  Be informed of what’s dangerous in the particular area you’re traveling in and be cautious. Take your time, stay focused on the ground, and even scoot your feet if you feel it will help stir up the ground and awaken any dangerous snakes near you.

In the following video, I took a regular pair of brush gaiters and modified them to give me some preventative penetration support for the lower legs.  The mod is simple with this particular type of gaiter: you simply add 1 or 2 layers of Gorilla Tape on the inside; I was satisfied with 1 layer at the time, but I may later add that second layer (more testing needed)  Gorilla tape is thicker than regular duct tape and has a glue embedded on it that is very effective in preventing penetration of snake fangs…
