When you can't find bushes to pitch camp in, continue to search, sometimes you will find these...

Always keeping up with at least a 5 day weather forecast and the local conditions, I thought why not take a chance and camp in some lower areas. I recently rode my bike, packed with the necessary gear, from San Diego California to the Midwest USA. For most of the route I had no problem finding a tree, a bush, or even a rock to get behind and pitch my bivy bag, cook some grub, and lay down at the end of a days riding. But there were some evenings when I could see nothing in sight to get me out of view from other road travelers.

‘Desperate times call for desperate measures,’ they say, and in these instances I just had to open my eyes and look a little further.

As you’ll see in the video, I was definitely down in areas one does not want to be in during flood times. I’ve camped down near these tunnel bridges many times, sometimes during a full night’s rain, and I never once even noticed water beginning to run under these tunnel bridges, not to say it doesn’t happen. It’s obvious they built these place for those rare occasions that a flood or good wash-out should occur. They don’t give names to areas like this like ‘washes’ without a reason; it goes without saying to be aware of the possibilites for storms or heavy rains.
