AFRICA MUST CHOOSE OR BRUISE WARNS TRUMP

Africa’s plundered nations are pondering on whether future prosperity lies with Russia or the United States. Several hundred years of capitalist-colonialism has left the plundered Dark Continent destitute. However, Russia and China promise barter-based trade opportunities mutually beneficial to Africa and the Russian-Chinese Alliance.

Hearing the rebellious rattle of African’s shackles the US is apprehensive. President Trump plans to maintain the western banking houses hold on Africa by challenging the continent’s leaders to make a choice to decide where their alliances lie, the US or Russia and China. The American president is angling to strengthen ties with US compliant nations whilst sanctioning awkward African leaders’ who work with Washington trade rivals.

John Bolton, Trump’s national security adviser with undisguised chutzpah says: “The predatory practices pursued by China and Russia stunt economic growth in Africa, threaten the financial independence of African nations, inhibit opportunities for US investment, interfere with US military operations and pose a significant threat to US national security interests.”

Michael Walsh, who has travelled extensively throughout Africa, is cynical. “Why did it take trade competition before Washington DC launched its Prosper Africa initiative?”

The author of four books on Africa, one of which is Rhodesia’s Death Europe’s Funeral: “The US has had 200 years to reward Africans for plundered natural resources. The West failed to do so and opted for milking the African cow until it could no longer stand on its feet. African leaders should carefully consider the prosperity offered by the far more trustworthy Chinese and Russian governments.”

Bolton’s speech on Thursday at the conservative Heritage Foundation in Washington marked the launch of a new effort by the Trump regime to maintain its stranglehold on African leaders after some early missteps.

Trump, who has yet to visit the continent in his nearly two years as president, asked during an Oval Office immigration debate earlier this year why the U.S. should accept immigrants from shithole countries in Africa, according to people briefed on the meeting. The president’s comment triggered widespread condemnation, forcing U.S. officials to undertake damage control efforts with key African leaders. Trump later denied making the comment.

Washington DC is now aiming to beef friendly African regimes whilst simultaneously sanctioning nations that Bolton describes as unreliable partners. There was then the usual mantra: “This administration will not allow hard-earned taxpayer dollars to fund corrupt autocrats, who use the money to fill their coffers at the expense of their people, or commit gross human rights abuses.” (Israel anyone?).

America’s main concern is China’s growing interest on the continent, from its East African military base in Djibouti to its role as one of Zambia’s biggest debt holders. China is also spending billions of dollars to build railways, dams, oil refineries and other major projects across Africa.

China’s deepening ties come as Russia expands its military cooperation on the continent, including places like the Central African Republic. The collapsing US administration is now framing these developments as national security threats to America as it tries to offer a reliable alternative with trade and investment.
