Could a fragment from a passing meteor have brought down EgyptAir Flight MS804?

That is the latest theory being looked at by investigators as the search for the wreckage of the doomed Paris-Cairo flight continues.

Did METEOR destroy EgyptAir MS804 jet? Shocking theory could impact future of air travel A TERRIFYING new theory tragic Egypt Air flight MS804 was hit by fragments of a disintegrating meteor has been put forward.

A massive space rock weighing up to 10,000 tonnes, and travelling at a startling 67,000 mph broke up in the Earth’s atmosphere on Tuesday and fragments of it were still falling to Earth at around the time air traffic controllers lost contact with the doomed Paris to Cairo plane carrying 66 people last Thursday.

The meteor broke up into thousands of smaller five to 60cm fragments, which were scattered as far and wide as between Greenland and Australia between last Wednesday and Friday.

Parts of it were filming disintegrating over New York on a police car dashcam, and the largest piece found so far landed in Argentina, south America, but experts believe the bulk of the pieces could have hailed down over the Middle East and Mediterranean, where the plane was lost.

It  has since emerged authorities were warned of the possible danger and disruption from falling debris.

In Russia an alert about the meteor was issued, which highlighted a potential threat to aircraft

I find this an interesting angle for a number of reasons. Firstly, there has been no terror group taken responsibility for the downing of the passenger flight and I find that somewhat suprising as there is no gain in carrying out an action if no one knows who done it! However, it could be that a group like ISIS have developed a new technique that they want to keep from authorities for as long as possible to perhaps carry out similar attacks in the near future.

Secondly, there has been an increase in the amount of meteors and asteroids in our region of space that we find ourselves at this time. NASA & ESA usually only inform us after the fact, once the rocks have past, yet in contrast, the Russians had a warning in place for this meteor that may have fragmented and caused EgyptAir MS804 to crash into the Med.

That in itself shows the difference between the Russain’s space agency and those in the west! It would appear that the Russians at least give advance warning of such things, and its very likely that NASA/ESA DO KNOW THESE ROCKS ARE INBOUND BUT DO NOTHING TO INFORM THE PUBLIC!

OSIRIS-REX vs BENNU

So, given what we know about NASA, its hardly comforting to know that they are launching a mission to take on an asteroid that may be on a collision course with Earth some 160 years from now.

OSIRIS-Rex is something we have covered on The Kev Baker Show in the past and its blast off is fast approaching, with it set to take off from Florida in September for a 2018 rendevous with the asteroid dubbed “Bennu”.

Experts at the space agency have touted the asteroid to be potentially hazardous and even a threat to life as we know it.

The OSIRIS-Rex mission will blast off from Florida in September and is set to reach the asteroid dubbed Bennu in 2018.

The spacecraft will collect samples from the space rock which could pave the way for an asteroid mining industry, with some of them worth trillions of dollars because of their minerals which are scarce on Earth such as platinum.

It will also give vital information on how to deflect asteroids from their collision course with Earth.

SPACE MINING

We are now about to enter an era that will see us starting to mine resources from off world bodies such as asteroids, moons & exoplanets. Its the kind of stuff that used to be confined to the Hollywood Sci-Fi flicks, but now its here, and ironically one of the men behind it just happens to be the director of one such film, “Avatar”.

Planetary Resources, a company founded by several space entrepreneurs and backed by such high-profile names as James Cameron, Larry Page, and Eric Schmidt, plans to begin prospecting for natural resources like water or precious metals in near-Earth asteroids (NEAs) by 2022. Co-founder Peter Diamandis claims that “everything we hold of value on Earth — metals, minerals, energy, real estate, water — is in near-infinite quantities in space.”

Just last year we reported on the show about the legislation going through Washington that was setting out the legalities to such mining operations. HR 2262 – U.S. Commercial Space Competitiveness Act has a section in it dealing with the utilization of resources from space.

The section of HR 2262 reads as follows….

TITLE IV–SPACE RESOURCE EXPLORATION AND UTILIZATION

Space Resource Exploration and Utilization Act of 2015

(Sec. 402) The bill directs the President, acting through appropriate federal agencies, to:

• facilitate the commercial exploration for and commercial recovery of space resources by U.S. citizens;
• discourage government barriers to the development of economically viable, safe, and stable industries for the commercial exploration for and commercial recovery of space resources in manners consistent with U.S. international obligations; and
• promote the right of U.S. citizens to engage in commercial exploration for and commercial recovery of space resources free from harmful interference, in accordance with such obligations and subject to authorization and continuing supervision by the federal government.

A U.S. citizen engaged in commercial recovery of an asteroid resource or a space resource shall be entitled to any asteroid resource or space resource obtained, including to possess, own, transport, use, and sell it according to applicable law, including U.S. international obligations.

(Sec. 403) It is the sense of Congress that the United States does not, by enactment of this Act, assert sovereignty or sovereign or exclusive rights or jurisdiction over, or ownership of, any celestial body.
