Notice that Archer says that “some” fail to make this important distinction in biblical translations. There is a big difference in the singular HEAVEN and the plural Heavens, Heavenlies, or the sky.

For example:
Out of the top two-dozen+ Bible translations – only two say, “A sign appeared in the sky.” ALL of the others, including the KJV and the NIV use the singular – “A sign appeared in HEAVEN.”

The word for “heaven” in this passage is in the SINGULAR – not PLURAL. It means “A sign appeared [to me, while I was] in heaven.” This matches exactly with the same use of the word in Revelation 11:19 (just before 12:1) where heaven is used also in the singular – indicating “IN HEAVEN” not in the “heavenlies.”

Rev. 12 does NOT mean “A sign appeared in [the heavenlies].”

Rev. 12 is NOT meant to be interpreted as a secret formula for the rapture date.

John was given a “revelation” [a SIGN, ILLUSTRATION, A KEY POINTING TO ANOTHER VERSE (Gen. 37)] while he was in HEAVEN. This was not a “sign in the heavenlies, or in the stars.”
