When Disaster Strikes, You Want To Be Absolutely Sure That You Have A Vehicle You Can Rely On: 4 Sport Utility Vehicles For Preppers

When disaster strikes, you want to be absolutely sure that you have a vehicle you can rely on. An SUV is an excellent option for those who want the perfect blend of durability, safety, and comfort. Here are four sport utility vehicles that preppers might want to take a closer look at.

Jeep Wrangler

Jeep Wrangler JK - 001It should come as no surprise to anyone that the Wrangler has won the “4×4 of the Year” award multiple times over the last decade, and some experts believe that Jeep will be selling well over 2 million SUVs per year by 2020. If you want a daily driver that can also be used as a bug out vehicle, then you should test drive the Jeep Wrangler. This vehicle is comfortable enough to drive every day and tough enough to stand up to quite a bit of punishment once you hit the dirt roads.

Mercedes G-Wagon

This SUV has a simple design, comfortable interior, and ample seating for seven. Those who don’t want to worry about electromagnetic interference will be glad to hear that there are very few electronic components in the G-Wagon. The biggest drawback of this SUV is its price tag, but you might be able to find a cheap military surplus model if you keep your eyes open.

Toyota 4Runner

1989 Toyota 4Runner (2617809616)One of the reasons why 4Runners are so popular among preppers is because they are extremely common. At a used truck dealership, you might be able to pick up an older model at a very reasonable price, and that means you can spend more on upgrades and accessories. Over the last few years, 4Runners have won dozens of durability and safety awards. With external storage accessories such as a roof rack and hitch carrier, you are going to have plenty of space to store all of your survival equipment.

Land Rover

In the 1980s, Land Rover released a rugged 4×4 called the Defender. That vehicle quickly became one of the most iconic off-road SUVs in the world. In addition to having excellent handling, Defenders also have quite a bit of interior space. That makes it a great option for preppers who have larger families or more gear to haul around.

Once you have been handed the keys to your new bug out SUV, you need to make sure that it is well-maintained at all times. No one wants to deal with an overheating radiator or slipping transmission in the middle of a disaster.

Mines a 3/4 ton Dodge Cummins heavy duty 4wd with all terrain tires. 34600 miles 2003 model. Probably gets around the same fuel mileage as the above mentioned and will pull a lot bigger trailer.
