QAnon Believers Are Turning Violent – Journalist Attacked At Trump’s El Paso Rally – NowThis? (Video)

EL PASO, Texas – As thousands of Donald Trump proponents lined up outside the El Paso County Coliseum Monday afternoon, patiently waiting to check out the President hold his initial official re-election campaign rally close to the U.S.-Mexico border, the MAGA merchants were in a frenzy.

Some vendors dragged carts loaded with red or camouflage “Make America Great Again” headgear, shouting, “Ten dollars, cash or credit!” Others made fancy displays of flags offered. The new Trump 2020 flag was well-liked. So was the flag with an illustration of Trump holding a gun, standing on top of a tank, in front of an American flag, next to a flying bald eagle.

Then there were the T-shirts: the fresh Trump/Pence 2020 shirt, the old “Hillary sucks but not like Monica” shirt, and a “We are Q” shirt, a reference to QAnon, the foolish and ever-evolving pro-Trump conspiracy theorist that holds that the president is on the edge of wiping out a pedophile ring that has been covertly operating within the U.S. government for decades.

As Trump fans poured into the gated section outside the coliseum, music brayed from the loudspeakers, a playlist that incorporated Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind,” Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” and “Memory” from the Broadway musical “Cats.” The music was cut off intermittently by announcements, which included one asking Trump followers to “not hurt any protesters” who may be present to destroy the evening’s fun.

On the big tv screen outside the venue, a Trump campaign message urged fans to follow the President on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. “Your source for Real News,” the message cried.

HuffPost wasn’t issued press credentials to report from inside the coliseum. Outside, an overflow mass of some 6,000 folks stood in the cold desert evening to sit back and watch the monitor and cheer on Trump.

Trump’s rally in El Paso was in support of his border wall. In his SOTU address a week ago he reported, that border fencing that was constructed south of the city in 2010 converted El Paso from a dangerous place into a safe one.

Its corrupt Republican mayor snapped on the President a week ago for his interference. El Paso’s decreasing crime rate began once the border fencing was constructed.

And Trump repeated the truth Monday evening. And for his audience, the truth was now manifest.

“Once they built that wall, it was amazing how statistically the violence started going down,” 39-year-old El Paso citizen Michael Blanco, who owns an accounting business, explained to HuffPost outside the coliseum. “I’m a complete witness of it. Seen it growing up.”

Henri Rafael, a 58-year-old El Pasoan sporting a black Trump 2020 hat, stated that even though the mayor annoyed Trump, “I know for a fact that the crime was high back in the ’70s and ’80s, and when they built those walls, [crime] has dropped.”

The truth is, violent crimes heightened in El Paso in the two years subsequently after the wall was constructed, based on a research from the El Paso Times.

Trump systematically paused his speech Monday for chants of “Build the wall!” and “USA!”

When he spoke of the “fake news” media, the audience jeered. At one point, a notably motivated Trump advocate attacked a BBC journalist:

The audience also jeered Beto O’Rourke, the Democratic El Paso local and ex – congressman who almost beat Sen. Ted Cruz in last year’s Senate race. O’Rourke, a possible presidential candidate, organised a protest a few blocks from Trump’s rally Monday evening.

The president teased and taunted O’Rourke from the stage, saying that the O’Rourke rally pulled in a paltry few hundred attendees. El Paso police force later determined that well over 10,000 folks attended.

Trump talked for at least an hour – about special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, about Hillary Clinton, about the Green New Deal and about how “America will never be a socialist country.”

Nick Martin, an investigative reporter at the Southern Poverty Law Center, saw the speech and observed someone he identified sitting in the front row, wearing a baseball hat and an eye patch: Elmer Stewart Rhodes.

Rhodes is the head honcho of the far-right militia crew the Oath Keepers. The SPLC lists the Oath Keepers as an anti-government extremist group due to the crazy conspiracy theories its members encourage. Rhodes recently reported he was establishing paramilitary training camps across the U.S. to plan to combat antifa, or anti-fascist, groups.

At some point, Trump concluded his speech and left the stage to cheers on his way to a sit-down interview with Laura Ingraham of Fox News, who had journeyed to Texas for the rally.

The audience filtered out through the gates of the coliseum. There they were met by a small cluster of teenage protesters holding signs reading “Trump is a lying corrupt racist” and “Abolish I.C.E.”

Numerous Trump followers cursed at the teens, screaming, “Fuck you,” and started a loud chant of “Trump! Trump! Trump!” At least one Trump advocate screamed, “Go back to Mexico!” at the teens, the majority of whom were Hispanic.

A different Trump advocate ripped the “Abolish I.C.E.” sign from a teen’s hands and ran off with it. Then another launched water at the teens’ faces.

One of the protesters, 17-year-old Arianna Ginichan, explained to HuffPost she didn’t let such contempt get to her. It’s all “normal because it’s what’s happening to America right now,” she stated. “And it’s what’s going on. And you just kind of brush it off.”

She attributed despair over observing so many Hispanics in the MAGA herd. “I think they’re kind of close to brainwashed, if not brainwashed,” she stated. “Kind of like disappointing to see that they’re supporting someone that talks down on them.”

A few hundred yards away, riot police declared over a megaphone that a separate party of 50 or so Trump protesters standing on a street corner needed to spread out. They declined. Trump proponents dipped in and out of the protest, taunting them. One yelled to the crowd that they all needed to join Pewdiepie, talking about the world’s most famous YouTuber, who has touted white supremacist material to his millions of subscribers.

Antoine Williams, a 36-year-old MAGA vendor from South Carolina, stood on the sidewalk and packed up his goods, looking on at the madness. “They’re asking’ for it,” he said of the protesters, who finally dispersed.

He stated he goes to every Trump rally to peddle his goods. Asked if he’s also a Trump promoter, Williams replied, “Till the death of me, bro.”
