Kansas City-based Dan Wesson announced their new series of Kodiak hunting pistols, chambering in 10mm, at the NRA Annual Meetings in Indianapolis last week.

The Kodiaks are long slide 1911-style semi-autos complete with 6-inch bull barrels. Chambered in 10mm — a caliber that had all but died out just a few years ago but is now very much resurgent — the big pistols were developed, “For the hunter who is up to the challenge of pistol hunting,” notes the CZ-USA subsidiary on the new gun.

Using a solid frame, these bruisers are named after the largest of brown bears and when picking one up you can tell from the Kodiak’s 47-ounce unloaded weight that the moniker fits the pistol. Overall length is 9.7-inches long. For this, the sportsman taking to the field with Dan Wesson‘s newest 10 gets a pistol that has an accessory rail, fully-adjustable sights, an 8+1 capacity, and G10 grips.

The stainless steel frame and slide are in what the company calls a Tri-Tone finish which is a black frame, a matte stainless slide, and bronzed small parts including the manual safety, barrel and magazine release.

For those who prefer, the DW Kodiak is also available in a more understated black finish.

While DW’s headquarters is in Kansas City, their factory is in Norwich, New York, as shown by the rollmarks.

The Kodiak series features 6-inch bull barrels along with fully-adjustable rear and fiber optic front sights.

MSRP is $2,349 on the Tri-Tone DW Kodiak while the Kodiak Black runs a half C-note less at $2,299.

DW fans looking to get a “centimeter” gun that runs shorter can always opt for the Razorback, which runs a 5-inch barrel and bright stainless finish for about $1K cheaper.
