Despite the heightened tensions, blame games, sanctions, and whipping around of bravado like they’re in a strip club, both Iran and the US said on Tuesday that neither side wants war. Mike Pompeo delivered an address with the following statement:

“We have been engaged in many messages, even this moment right here, communicating to Iran that we are there to deter aggression,”

“President [Donald] Trump does not want war and we will continue to communicate that message while doing the things that are necessary to protect American interests in the region.”

Mr Trump has gone as far as to say that Iran’s alleged attack on the Japanese oil tanker was “very minor” while other US allies in the region are furious over it. The Iranian President has also made the claim that Iran will not wage war with any nation. Although after their statement to defy uranium stockpile limits John Bolton has said they are using nuclear blackmail to get their way. The Washington Post had the following on Mr Trump’s statement of the attack being minor.

President Trump in an interview published Monday night characterized alleged attacks by Iran against two tankers in the Gulf of Oman as “very minor” and suggested that the United States might not go to war to protect international oil supplies.

Regardless of what the US is saying, they’re currently increasing troops in the area in response to Iran’s “10-day mark” on uranium. China and Russia warned Tuesday about escalating Middle East tensions after Washington said it would deploy 1,000 more troops to the region and renewed accusations that Iran was behind a tanker attack. A writer for The Guardian had the following to say on the all too convenient situation that the US has built up.

The fact is, the current crisis was conceived, manufactured and magnified in Washington. It has been whipped up by a group of hawkish policymakers around Donald Trump whose loathing for the Tehran regime is exceeded only by their recklessness.

The crisis has been building inexorably since President Trump’s foolish renunciation last year of the 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran, his imposition of swingeing sanctions, and a campaign of “maximum pressure” to isolate and weaken Iran’s leadership. It looks and smells like a crude bid for regime change. And although Trump insists he does not want it, his actions could soon trigger another calamitous Middle East war.
