Another Animal Reiki Magnet Adventure

Rose De Dan, Wild Reiki and Shamanic Healing LLC, is a mesa carrier in the Peruvian Andean Medicine Tradition, Reiki Master Teacher, animal communicator, author and artist. In practice and in partnership with her companion animals, Rose offers private sessions and ceremonies for humans and animals, and teaches classes and workshops in Reiki and shamanism in Seattle, Washington.

In the 22+ years that I have been practicing Reiki I have been approached by beings of many different species asking for energy healing, and have written many stories about my experiences as an animal Reiki magnet.

None of them tickled my funny bone as much as the one that happened earlier this month.

It was a lovely summer evening, and I was sitting on the sidewalk weeding the edge of the flowerbed, when I heard a snuffling sound behind me.

Turning, I saw a woman pulling on the end of a flexi-lead. On the other end of the lead was a brindle and white bulldog who was built like a very compact Mac truck. She had all four brake paws on and was refusing to move past me. So, of course I said hello and offered my hand to her. She did not sniff just the one hand. Instead, she shoved her face in turn all the way into the palms of each of my somewhat dirty, but very Reiki-fied hands, sniffing eagerly.

With a satisfied grunt, the dog sat down next to me. While petting her, I chatted with her walker who shared that she was adopting a puppy in a few weeks.

As we talked, I became aware that the seated dog was inching herself sideways, closer and closer to me.

Next, I noticed that from her seated position she was holding her left rear leg way off the ground, foot pointing skyward. However, I did not take immediate action. Since it appeared that I was not getting her message, the dog gave up all pretense of being subtle. She pointed the toes of her quivering leg directly at me with a pleading expression on her face. It was one of those moments that I dearly wished I had been able to take a photo since words fail to do the visual justice.

I answered her plea by placing both my hands on either side of the offered leg. I heard her say, “At last!” and with a sigh of relief she rested her entire leg in my hands. The walker, a neighbor who was caring for the dog while her folks were on vacation, exclaimed, “Oh, that’s her surgery leg!” She explained that the dog had undergone surgery about six weeks before to make the grooves in her knee deeper so that she could walk more comfortably. Sadly, because of their breeding, bulldogs are prone to physical issues like these.

I felt a little heat in the leg, but overall it seemed to be healing nicely. The walker told me that the dog was going to be having the other knee done in a few weeks. I finished up offering energy healing for her highest good, and thanked the dog for stopping by my outdoor office. She did not want to leave. When she finally did stand up she tried to drag her walker to my front door. I could imagine the horror on kitten Night Sky’s face if I decided to host a dog…

My impromptu dog client was finally persuaded to resume her walk. I wonder if she will be back after her second surgery, perhaps dragging her people behind her…
