As Summer Winds Towards an Ending

This week I have painted, thought, walked. But not enough. Swum, just a little in the sea. Again, not enough. For some reason I cannot work out there was a real spike in the funding of The Unwinding, which now sees itself at a tidy 789 supporters and 141% funded. There is still time, and will be for a while, to come aboard the dreaming boat as a supporter and have your name in the listing at the back of the book.

Below is one of the images for The Unwinding, still waiting for its words. Now and again they flow through my mind. I need to go to the hill top to sit, and watch and catch them, but I am rooted to my drawing board. And I have just signed a contract for a new book. But that is a secret.

Two of the paintings for The Unwinding are now on show at The Shed in Porthgain. The Shed is the most marvellous fish and chip shop in Wales, and both the pieces were painted in an attempt to paint a whole series of images to exhibit there. But other work got in the way, so I though I would let these two out into the wild. More may come. In time. Between books. Both of these are in The Unwinding.

And there is also this, painted because Hannah said, ‘I bet you can’t paint ten cheetahs and one cherry’, so I did.

On Friday I head to London to the Royal Albert Hall to play with my friends from Spellsongs at Prom 49, The Lost Words. Looking forward to seeing my big fox there, the rehearsal, I will be on Radio 4 on Sat, 3 on Sunday and the prom will be on Radio 3 in the evening where I will be painting, the best fox ever, because it’s live on radio and radio, as everyone knows, has all the best pictures. Not so much looking forward to the performance though, but if I can get through without passing out or throwing up that will be a bonus, so anything else will be good! Nervous? Me? Off the scale!

Home on Tuesday, back to work, ( the real kind, not the fancy stuff in front of an audience trying to enchant a fox out of a brush using a spell of words).

And this week has seen the arrival of the advance copy of my other book, written by me, and illustrated by Ehsan Abdollahi from Iran, published by Tiny Owl, who like me believe in bridges, not walls and that books can be cultural ambassadors between nations.

I love everything about how this book is illustrated, designed, and produced. Tiny Owl have been a pleasure to work with. I know that Anna at Solva Woollen Mill will have copies available soon, and Davina at Number Seven and Tamsin at Kenilworth Books.

Right, back to work now, once I have been to walk the creatures and make sure the paintings are straight on the walls at The Shed.
