6 of the Weirdest Auction Items Ever Sold

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

People will try to sell a lot of strange things. But that’s not very surprising. It never hurts to try.

What is surprising is that there are other people who will buy them.

Check out this list of 6 really weird auction items. Would you buy any of them?

Let’s take a look!

1. John Lennon’s Toilet

While auctioning off Beatles memorabilia is completely rational, Lennon’s toilet is not the first thing that comes to mind. However, some enterprising person decided to give it a try.

Turns out, it was a good try. Auctioneers estimated it would fetch around $1000. When all was said and done, the auction closed at $14,740!

It is a pretty porcelain toilet, but still.

2. Elvis Presley’s Hair

It’s impossible to think about Elvis Presley without imagining his iconic hairdo. So it makes sense that someone would want to buy a lock of his hair.

How much they would be willing to pay for it, on the other hand, is quite surprising.

Elvis Presley’s hairdresser is the lucky duck who saved and sold a lock of Presley’s hair. It fetched a nice round sum of $115,000.

You might not care to spend $115,000 on Elvis Presley’s hair, but you would like to keep your own. Check out these weird causes of hair loss.

3. Violin from the Titanic

Violins are capable of producing such haunting music. We can imagine that it was the perfect accompaniment to the sinking of the Titanic.

Someone else apparently thought so too. Salvagers recovered the violin that was played as the ship sank and auctioned it off for $1.7 million dollars.

We can’t imagine that this poor violin is in very good shape though. If you’re more interested in a playable, yet iconic instrument, you may want to check out an antiques shop instead.

4. Marilyn Monroe’s Dress

Of course, Marilyn Monroe wore a lot of dresses. But the one we’re talking about is the one that immediately comes to mind. It’s the one she was wearing when that gust of wind blew her skirts up in The Seven Year Itch.

What is somewhat surprising is the price it fetched at auction. Someone handed over a handy $4.6 million dollars for the garment.

5. Justin Timberlake’s French Toast

We’re not sure which is weirder, that someone would think to sell half-eaten food or that someone would buy it. But however weird it may be, it has happened.

Back in 2000, Justin Timberlake left part of his French toast on his plate. Instead of tossing it in the garbage as you would expect, someone auctioned it off online. They earned themselves a handy $1025 for their efforts. Does it get any weirder than that?

6. Britney Spears’ Gum

It turns out that you can sell something weirder than half-eaten French toast. You can sell used chewing gum. Just like the toast, it’s worth something if the right person’s teeth have sunken into it.

Someone apparently wanted Britney Spears’ used gum bad enough that they were willing to spend over $14,000 on it!
