We can’t put all the blame on the paint companies. If you have hundreds of colors, you can’t exactly stick to “blue,” “bluer,” and “bluest.” Still, some of the names they settled on are beyond weird. If you could use a laugh, check out these weird paint color names:

Perhaps we’re missing some deep points of color theory, but some of these names cross the line into crazy:

1. Salty Tear by Behr

The actual color of Salty Tear is a calming light blue you’d expect to see in a beach house. The name is a whole different story. First of all, if your tears are blue, you probably need medical attention.

Second, we have to wonder what was going through someone’s mind when they named this color. We’re picturing a despondent person crying in a dark room, coming up with names like “salty tear” and “dagger to the heart.”

2. Hugs & Kisses by Benjamin Moore

In this case, the name is a common phrase. The weird aspect of it, though, is that it doesn’t seem to relate to the color at all. When you hear “Hugs & Kisses,” you’d think of reds and pinks associated with Valentine’s Day, right? Wrong. It’s a peach-like color.

As an added non-bonus, imagine how awkward it would be to tell your professional painters, “I’d like Hugs & Kisses in this room.”

3. Anonymous by Sherwin Williams

Here’s how we’re picturing this one going down. Official Paint Color Namer hands in their color names for the fall releases but has forgotten to name this dark beige gem when talking to a client about their office decor.

The boss sees it and says, “Oh, that’s clever! This one doesn’t have a name, it’s anonymous!”

Paint Color Namer says, “Yeah, that’s it, that was my plan all along.”

4. Bath Salts by Benjamin Moore

We’re going to give this paint color namer the benefit of the doubt. We’re hopeful that they named the color before bath salts became the name of a powerful drug. Still, given the crazy stories of what people have done while on bath salts, we’d say it’s time for a re-name.

5. Mermaid Net by Behr

This one just makes us sad. We would understand naming the color “mermaid” because it’s the color of a mermaid’s tail in most depictions. Why “mermaid net,” though? Would this paint color naming aficionado be out fishing for mermaids if they were real?

6. Mayonnaise by Benjamin Moore

Mayonnaise may be the most divisive food of all time. Some people love it, some people hate it. There doesn’t seem to be much in-between. Even for folks who love mayo, though, does it really sound enticing to slather it on your walls?
