There is an average of six million car crashes in the U.S. every year. While most of them are simple fender benders or the result of mechanical failures, some of them are…well, weird.

Weirdest Car Crash Stories You’ve Ever Heard Life Saver

Richard M. Paylor owes his life to the day he crashed his truck into a concrete barrier near Lancaster Avenue in Pennsylvania. Paylor had been driving west with a full load, eating an apple, when a piece got caught in his throat. He began to choke and then blacked out.

The next thing he knew, he was coming round at the scene of an accident. The impact had been enough to dislodge the apple from his throat, and Paylor could breathe freely. The police confirmed that the apple piece was found in the cab.

Double Trouble

One Friday afternoon in 2012, Mary Hasselberger got confused between the accelerator and the brake pedal. As a result, the 66-year-old drove her rented Buick Lacrosse into the side of an Eye Care Center. While you could call that ironic, it’s not the weird part.

What’s strange is that just two days before, Hassellberger had done pretty much the same thing two doors up the street.

On that occasion, her Ford Taurus had crashed through a wooden barrier outside Dunkin’ Donuts and into the yard of a neighboring house! We can only hope that a car accident chiropractor was Mary’s next stop (and she got the right pedal!).

Instant Karma

During a road rage incident, Joseph H. Carl, the driver of a pickup truck rammed into the back of another vehicle. Both stopped, and Carl got out and banged on the windshield of the other car. That driver, a woman, got scared and drove off.

Unfortunately for Mr. Carl, he had forgotten to put his parking brake on. His vehicle rolled right over him, and police from Gainsville, Florida, had to deal with the aftermath.

Ghost Car

YouTube has quite a collection of appearing or disappearing car videos. These so-called ghost cars are often created as part of a prank, but there is one video of dashcam footage from Russia that is pretty convincing.

This clip shows vehicles turning left at a busy junction, under traffic light control. Suddenly a car cuts across their path – but where it came from is hard to tell. It appears to literally come out of nowhere.
