5 Weird and Funny Skills People Have Actually Put on Their Resume

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Are you looking for a new job? The application process can be exhausting and frustrating. At some point, you’ll probably panic that you’re doing something wrong.

Let’s face it, writing an effective resume is tricky. It seems like every HR manager is looking for something different. But you can take relief in knowing you’re not alone.

In fact, you’re probably doing a lot better than you think. When at a loss for what to write, people have resorted to listing some crazy and funny skills on their resume.

Do you want to know more? Keep reading to discover five weird skills people actually put on their resume.

1. Can Shred Paper

So, you’re applying for an office job. It’s only natural to want to add some office skills to beef up your resume. But what do you do when you don’t have any office skills?

One funny resume listed using a paper shredder as a skill. That sure doesn’t set the bar very high for this applicant. Maybe they should’ve consulted United Card Solutions before including that one on their resume.

2. Excellent Video Game Skills

Do you spend your weekends hunched over the computer playing unusual video games? While there’s nothing wrong with doing that in your free time (hey, everyone has their hobbies, right?), you should probably avoid including that as a skill.

One person wrote “level 90 healer” under special skills on a resume. Well, they sure are dedicated to the game, but the question remains as to how those healer skills will come in handy in the workplace.

3. Ability to Use the Internet

Between work, social media, and keeping up with the news, you probably spend a lot of time surfing the web. In fact, the average American now spends almost 24 hours per week on the internet! So, it should come as no surprise that the average worker can use internet browsers.

Well, one funny talent found on a resume was the ability to use various internet browsers. As a general rule of thumb, if almost everyone in the country knows how to do it, you don’t need to include it as a special skill on your resume.

4. Proficient in Made-Up Languages

With more and more companies doing business in other countries, knowing more than one language can come in handy. Whether you’re applying for a job working with customers or hoping to score a higher-up job in corporate, you never know when you’ll have to communicate with people who speak other languages.

One language you probably won’t have to use in the workplace in Klingon, the made-up alien language from Star-Trek. But that didn’t stop one applicant from listing it as a skill – now that’s a funny resume!

5. Achieved Prom Queen

Those with little or no work experience may struggle to fill up their resume. If you didn’t learn how to code or use special software, many opt to include soft skills, such as good time-management or good communication skills.

But one weird and funny resume took this one step too far by listing prom queen as an achievement. There’s no doubting that’s a big achievement for a teenager, but it’s not really a trait employers are on the lookout for.
