And, yes, even huge companies such as Microsoft and Apple pay evangelists for their services. We’re sure those lucky evangelists get paid big bucks for the opportunity.

Chief Listening Officer

The chief listening officer is yet another non-tech IT role. This position is all about spying on consumers.

Chief listening officers use whatever spy gadgets are available to them to get the job done. They browse social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook to gather customer feedback. They then report back to higher-ups who use this info to gauge public perception of their businesses.

Innovation Sherpa

The term “innovation sherpa” tells you little about what the position entails. That’s precisely why this IT job made our list.

Simply put, an innovation sherpa is a high-level executive who improves company processes. He or she does so by gathering new perspectives and supervising user interviews.

And here’s a fun fact about the term “sherpa”:

It references a Nepalese ethnic group. These Himalayan peoples live in mountainous regions and are famous for their mountaineering skill. Perhaps that’s why some wise guy chose this term for a role which is all about moving a company towards its peak.

Digital Overlord

What do you think of when you hear the term “digital overlord”? We personally think of someone who has such a masterful handle on technology that there’s no other way of describing his or her skill.

And that’s sort of what a digital overlord is.

Digital overlords are more commonly known as simple website managers. A website manager’s job is to ensure that websites function properly. They accomplish this goal by updating software and monitoring sites’ performance.
