7 Weird & Unusual Men’s Fashion Trends That Are On the Rise Right Now

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Remember in the 80s when bellbottom pants paired with white blazers and wide-collar shirts were the pinnacle of men’s fashion? Or what about the early 2000s when Ed Hardy ruled men’s fashion with deep v-neck shirts, jeans sagged to the ankles, and an outfit made complete with a chinstrap beard?

While perhaps at the time those things were seen as stylish and cool, we look back on those things now and cringe. But weird (and objectively awful) men’s fashion trends continue to pop up as the years go on.

Keep reading to learn 7 of the strangest and weirdest men’s fashion trends of the present day so you can steer clear. Or, perhaps you’re looking to stand out in an odd way. Either way, these 7 trends will keep you in the know.

1. Printed Suits

A recent gaudy trend sweeping frat houses and office parties alike are full-printed suits. Now, we aren’t talking about a nice plaid or pinstriped suit.

We’re talking full Christmas patterned suits, suits with a complete snowflake montage, neon 80s patterned suits, leopard print suits, and more. While these suits might be fun for an “ugly sweater” holiday party or perhaps as a joke for your office dress up day, there’s no way you’re going to be taken seriously when wearing a suit that looks like it was designed by the band members of LMFAO.

If you want to switch up your suit game, consider solid colors or a patterned jacket instead of the full ensemble. You don’t want to risk looking like you’re in an adult onesie as you walk down the street.

2. Stacked Jeans

Stacked jeans are jeans that are made with extra long legs so that you’re forced to “stack” them like this. Essentially, this trend takes jeans that are much too long for your leg and makes it look like they’re much too long for your leg.

Some customers buy these jeans only to be perplexed by their extreme length. The end result is you looking shorter than you actually are and having a lot of denim uncomfortably bunched around your ankle.

3. Longline Shirts

This trend has been going since around 2010 and is thankfully on its way out. Oversized and longline shirts took origin in street and skater styles. While some find the look to be edgy or perfect street style, many others find the excess length and boxiness of the clothing to be strange and unflattering.

While this trend might work if you’re quite tall, most men are drowned in the extra fabric and instead made to looks shorter. The long length of these shirts weighs down your whole look, with some shirts dropping below your knees.

If you’re looking for the oversized look but aren’t crazy about the longline trend, try going up a shirt size instead. This will give you a bit of extra length without overpowering your entire look as the longline trend might.

4. Crop Tops

Crop tops are by no means a new trend: we’ve seen celebs like Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian rocking crop tops since before 2010.

However, this trend has now crossed over to all genders, not just celeb women. More and more men are rocking crop tops to show off abs during yoga sessions, their tummies during festival season, or even just for a nice Instagram picture.

Even top name fashion designers like Calvin Klein are coming out with their take on this trend. That doesn’t diminish the strangeness of people walking around with their entire stomach and (in some cases) nipples showing.

We aren’t body shaming here, though: if this sounds good to you, then go for it! But do remember that

5. Fanny Packs

Yes, you read that right. This trend from the 80s and 90s is back in full force complete with the 80s designs and neon colorways. While this trend is still somewhat odd, they can be an interesting addition to your outfit.

They’re also useful. Keys, phone, wallet all in one place with easy access? Sign us up.

6. Designer Tote Bag

Some men are opting for tote bags instead of a stylish messenger bag, which we guess is their prerogative. However, we have to draw the line somewhere, and we think that line is at this two thousand dollar tote bag from Balenciaga that is essentially a rip off of the 99 cent blue totes they give you at IKEA.

While the style itself isn’t odd, what is odd is men are spending thousands of dollars for a bag they could easily purchase for 99 cents somewhere else simply because of the designer label. Perhaps that is the true odd trend of recent years: spending extra money on products that you could buy for much cheaper simply because they come with a designer brand label.

It’s your money to spend, though, so go for it if you must.

7. Dirty Jeans

We don’t mean “dirty” as in “sexy” we mean “dirty” as in “made to look like there are mud stains on your pants.” Clothing brands are legitimately trying to sell jeans that are manufactured to have permanent dirt and mud stains on them.

Not much else to say with this one except a resounding, “Why?”
