Marriage proposals can happen anywhere at any time, but the memorable ones share distinctions.  

The best marriage proposals, funny proposals, the weird marriage proposals, and the cool marriage proposals all share one thing: sentiment. They mean something. 

And who knows. Weird proposals don’t have to lead to weird marriages, but they can lead to quirky wedding ideas. 

So if you’re thinking about popping the question, read on for some of the more bizarre but meaningful marriage proposal ideas.  

The Escape Room Proposal

Topping the list is Brian’s proposal to Ana. Knowing his girlfriend had never successfully escaped from an escape room, Brian asked a friend to create an Escape Room.

Brian’s friend asked Ana if they could test out their new escape room idea which he had deemed “Easy as Any” escape experience.  

This proposal succeeded not just because it surprised Ana but because Brian had fashioned the clues just for the event. For example, “Easy as Any” is an anagram for “Say Yes Ana.”

In the end. Ana never caught on. When they read the last clue, there was the ring and a boy on his knee asking her to marry her.

Best of all, the room was on the second story, and when she looked into the back yard, she saw her friends and family all on the lawn below, prepared to celebrate with them.

Escape Rooms want your business. So if you ask them if you can use the experience as the start for a slam-bang finish of a proposal, most will say yes. Some may even accommodate some of your ideas.

If you love underwater fauna and sea life, you don’t have to wear scuba gear. You could always just visit an aquarium, and then have scuba divers sneak in with a “will you marry me” sign.

Matt Still not only proposed to his future wife, but he became famous in the process.

Still’s marriage proposal, a movie trailer he created where Still is asking his future father-in-law for permission to have his daughter’s hand in marriage, has been viewed over 35 million times on YouTube. Clearly, it’s an idea worth considering. 

Dirt Message Proposal

Most people cannot afford to travel to an exotic location to pop the question. So if you live in a place where you see wide-open spaces more than buildings, consider writing your best marriage proposal in the dirt.

And use big equipment. 

Some creative rural-minded, starry-eyed boys have done this, where they express their undying love with farm equipment in open fields. 

Geek Speak Proposal

A proposal needs to mean something to the receiver. So while a Binary code proposal may sound like a weird marriage proposal idea to the non-geek, the right person would truly appreciate the effort that went into this marriage proposal. 

This particular boy created a three-plus minute video in which he speaks binary code that translates into “will you marry me.”

Side note: this proposal took his girlfriend a half hour to decode. Strange? Yes. Meaningful? Possibly.

Some people can’t help but make jokes. And more prankster proposals exist than we have room for in this article. But here are a couple. 

Reddit asked its users about some of the most unique proposals out there. One mentioned how he wore the engagement ring for a couple of days until his girlfriend noticed and asked him what was on his finger. His response: “Oh yeah. Do you want to marry me?”
