Thank You for Your Prayers

Thought I’d give a brief update regarding my wife’s surgery and her recovery.

First, I’d like to thank so many for their prayers and concern, which actually translates to acts of love. We cannot thank you enough because of this.

First up, wanted to share that my wife’s surgery went exactly as planned and in fact, in seeing the first phase of her breast reconstruction, it actually surpassed our expectations.

The surgery itself lasted about 4 hours, starting at 8:30am and then my wife went into recovery. By about 1:30, they wheeled her into a private room.

I spoke with both physicians – the breast surgeon and the plastic surgeon – who tagged teamed the surgery and they were both very pleased with how things went during the procedure.

The doctor of pathology was also involved and they did not feel the need to remove any lymph nodes for testing as on the surface, it appeared that there was no cancer. Of course, the breast material was sent out for testing and the results should be available to us hopefully this week. What this means is that no chemo or radiation would be necessary. Of course, it goes without saying that chemo and radiation can have some limited efficacy, it often does more harm than good.

We are extremely grateful for the expertise of all those involved, from the pre-op nurses to all the people involved in the actual surgery to the post-operative, recovery room staff. It is such a calling to be a nurse. The nurses and others who provided constant care and attention to my wife were absolutely wonderful. They went above and beyond with their compassion as well as their care.

My wife was discharged yesterday – Sunday – as expected and she is home now resting. The pain has not been bad for her and she is slowly regaining her strength. She will be away from work for the next four to six weeks as she continues to recover.

In about four months, there will be a second, outpatient operation to complete the breast. If you’ll all continue to pray for my wife’s healing and full recovery as the Lord wills, we would both be grateful.

I stand amazed at the number of people who stepped up to express Christian love to my wife and myself. I’m also amazed at how even my wife’s co-workers have stepped up. We received a warm note from a co-worker who told me that donations had been received and a week’s worth of meals were purchased through Fresh N Lean. These meals will be gluten-free (essentially Paleo) and will include everything needed to make them. I’ll be cooking them so feel free to continue praying for me there – smile).

We’ve also had numerous folks from our church tell us that they will be bringing us meals. The first arrives tonight and another meal will arrive for tomorrow evening. Again, this outpouring of love is exactly the type of thing that should characterize Christ’s Bride because it is what Jesus did and would do.

I am so grateful that we know the Lord. I am so grateful that these situations come into our lives not because of anything bad that we’ve done but to strengthen our dependence upon God and it also provides opportunities for other Christians within the Body to express God’s love through their actions.

No one has said to us, “Be warmed and fed” and went their way. They have succeeded in putting love in action so that they become the arms, the feet, the expression of God in the way they love. We are so very grateful and please, for those who can “only” pray, do not think of yourselves as being “less than.” Your prayers are so very important! It’s simply that those who are geographically closer have the opportunity to do more if they are able. It all starts with prayer.

Thanks again. We very much appreciate your care, your concern, and your love in the many expressions from all of you. May the Lord bless you because of the way you have given of yourselves in whatever way you have been able to do so.
